Sounds!

Sounds! (subtitled The Sensitive Guitar and Exciting Percussion of Jack Marshall and Shelly Manne) is an album by drummer Shelly Manne and guitarist Jack Marshall released in early 1966 on the Capitol label. The album follows Sounds Unheard Of!, the duo's 1962 stereo test and demonstration record released on Contemporary.

Reception

Allmusic rated the album with 3 stars. On Audiophilia.com, Roy Harris wrote "While the goal of the producer probably was the maximization of sound quality, it may have led to an unintended consequence, namely the subservience of the music to the sound. While the cause may have been percussion “pyrotechnics”, I found the novel and unusual arrangements of familiar melodies interesting, and not indicative of a devaluation of the musical content".

In physics, sound is a vibration that propagates as a typically audible mechanical wave of pressure and displacement, through a medium such as air or water. In physiology and psychology, sound is the reception of such waves and their perception by the brain.

Sounds (Australian TV series)

Sounds (originally known as Sound Unlimited) was a popular Australian television series featuring pop and rock music. It was broadcast on Saturday mornings on the Seven Network from the late 1970s to the late 1980s.

The series began as Sound Unlimited in late 1974, just before its longtime rival, the ABC's Countdown.

The show's producer and original host was the former commercial radio DJ Graham "Spider" Webb, who later handed the compère position to the former horse jockey and 1960s pop singer Donnie Sutherland. Jeffrey James was a co-compere with Webb and later with Sutherland but left the show.

Many music stars appeared on the show, and it is notable as the venue for the final public appearance, on 30 September 1978, of Australian rock'n'roll legend Johnny O'Keefe, who died a week later on 6 October.

Sound Unlimited (initially without the plural) was the first live studio programme broadcast in Australia in March 1975.
