Souls at Zero is the third studio album from California based post-metal band Neurosis. The album was released in 1992 under the Alternative Tentacles record label. It was later reissued in 1999 with bonus tracks on the band's own Neurot Recordings label. On February 15, 2010, the album was reissued on CD and digitally with new artwork under Neurot Recordings. On February 14, 2012, a fully remastered version was released on vinyl via Relapse Records.
The name was taken from a chapter in the book The Great and Secret Show by horror writer Clive Barker. Unlike their previous efforts, this album showcases the band's penchant for playing densely layered, folk-influenced music at radically slower tempos. While this album likely alienated a large portion of their early fan base, it has become an important landmark for newer Neurosis fans. In an interview the band stated that the famous cover art was inspired by the movie The Wicker Man but since they could not acquire the licence for the image affordably, they created their own straw figure for the artwork.
Souls At Zero was an American groove metal band. They were originally known as Wrathchild America. The name change occurred after Wrathchild America was dropped from Atlantic Records in 1993, and was accompanied by a slight change in musical style. Souls At Zero released three albums on Energy Rekords before disbanding in the mid-1990s.
The name "Souls at Zero" was taken from a chapter in the book The Great and Secret Show by horror writer Clive Barker. The name was originally intended for Shannon's and John "Tumor" Fahnestock's side project MF Pitbulls which also included 3/5 of the future band Snot.
With the onset of grunge in the early 1990s, mainstream interest in metal was on the decline. Wrathchild America became a casualty of the grunge-era, being dropped from Atlantic Records. Changing their look and style, they became Souls At Zero. Shannon Larkin left the band in 1994 to fill the drum seat in Ugly Kid Joe. He currently plays in Godsmack. Jamie Miller replaced Larkin. He played on A Taste For The Perverse. He left to join Snot. He currently plays in TheSTART,... And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and Normandie. After touring in support of A Taste for the Perverse, the band broke up shortly thereafter.

Confusion sits at the edge of the tongue
Darkness hovers around the corners of the mind
While you choke on every word I shove down your throat
I¹ll walk through your eyes and pull up a chair in the back of your skull
So I say to close your eyes turn your back and walk away
Find a way to fake a smile turn it on and break the day
Smiling you live and you call life pleasure
Keeping that sparkle in the eye and ice in the veins
That just makes it all the easier for me to slip it on then I¹ll ask why
You speak words without meaning no substance empty distorted
I¹m the needle in your arm wash away the mindless game
I¹m the pleasure in your pain now you¹ve thrown it all away
Sinking with the flow of life hold it in your hand
