Soulfly is a heavy metal band formed in 1997 and based in Phoenix, Arizona. The original lyrical content revolved around spirituality and religious themes, with later albums encompassing other themes including war, violence, aggression, slavery, hatred and anger. Soulfly is led by former Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera, who formed the band after he left the Brazilian group in 1996. The band has released ten studio albums, one tour EP, 19 singles, and one DVD video. Their debut album, Soulfly, was released on April 21, 1998, while their newest album, Archangel, was released on August 14, 2015.
Soulfly incorporates many styles of metal with Brazilian tribal and world music. All of their first six studio albums debuted on the United States Billboard 200, with a peak position at number 32 for their second album, Primitive.Soulfly has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The band has gone through numerous line-up changes, with Cavalera being the only constant member.
Soulfly is the self titled debut album by the metal band Soulfly, released on April 21, 1998 through Roadrunner Records. The record was released in memory of frontman Max Cavalera's murdered stepson and the first album featuring Cavalera since leaving Sepultura two years prior. Both CDs have the message In Loving Memory Dana printed across them. The album has been certified gold by the RIAA.
The record features many guests, including members of Fear Factory, Limp Bizkit, Cypress Hill, Deftones, and Dub War.
"The Song Remains Insane" is pieced together by two other songs, opening with a cover of "Caos" by Ratos de Porão and secondly a brief reckless hardcore rendition of "Attitude" by Sepultura. "Umbabarauma" is a cover of a 1976 song by Brazilian musician Jorge Ben Jor, which originally featured on his album África Brasil.
The breakdown riff in "Tribe" originated during Max's time still in Sepultura - most likely created during on-the-road demo jams during the Roots tour though evidently never recorded in any complete demo form. As such, the riff was also used by Sepultura members Andreas Kisser and Igor Cavalera as the main riff to 'Walkman' during their scoring of the movie No Coracao Dos Deuses, recorded the same year as Soulfly's 'Tribe'.
3 is the third studio album by the metal band Soulfly released in 2002 through Roadrunner Records.3 has sold 195,000 copies as of March 11, 2008.
The album artwork features an Aum (or Om), a symbol from Indian religions.
Both of the first two tracks were the only singles released from the album, "Downstroy" and "Seek 'n' Strike."
"One" fuses growling vocals from Max Cavalera with gripping vocals from Ill Nino’s Christian Machado. The song uses this title as first word of the two word clauses per line: 'One soul / One heart / One man / One truth / One tribe / One life / One God'. "L.O.T.M" (acronym for "Last of the Mohicans") is a Native American-themed metal song named after the 1826 novel of the same name. "Brasil" is a Brazilian metal song, especially featuring berimbau, as well as several percussions performed by Cavalera. "Brasil" is about overcoming the poor government of Rio de Janeiro by praying the past.
"One Nation" plays a recorded pledge of allegiance to begin and end the song, since "One Nation" appears in pledge of allegiance. "One Nation" was originally recorded by Sacred Reich. "09-11-01" is a one-minute silence used for listeners to tribute to the victims of the September 11th, 2001 terrorism acts on the World Trade Center. "Call to Arms" is about addressing the terrorists in a usual way.
I am what i create
believing in my fate
integrity is my name
All that i am doing
can never be ruined
my song remains insane
eye for an eye
eye for an eye
eye for an eye
eye for an eye for an eye for an eye
fuck
Can't you watch my back
can't you let my heart
believe what they have fired (?)
To reunite the tribe
to find a better way
fucking envy changes everything
Eye for an eye
eye for an eye
eye for an eye
eye for an eye for an eye for an eye
That's right!
[break, "right" echoing in the background]
I hate to borrow
you don't understand
pain, hate, pain
To born again
arise again
i believe it's the only way...
Eye for an eye
eye for an eye
eye for an eye
eye for an eye for an eye for an eye
