Primitive

Primitive may refer to:

  • Anarcho-primitivism, an anarchist critique of the origins and progress of civilization
  • Primitive culture, one that lacks major signs of economic development or modernity
  • Noble savage, a particular stock character in literature, i.e., a person uncorrupted by the influences of civilization
  • Primitive communism, a pre-agrarian form of communism according to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels
  • Primitive Church, another name for early Christianity
  • Primitive Baptist, a religious movement seeking to retain or restore early Christian practices
  • Primitive Methodism
  • Primitive (phylogenetics) characteristic of an early stage of development or evolution, cf. basal
  • Meteorology

  • Primitive equations, a set of nonlinear differential equations that are used to approximate atmospheric flow
  • Mathematics

  • Primitive element (field theory)
  • Primitive element (finite field)
  • Primitive cell (crystallography)
  • Primitive notion, axiomatic systems
  • Primitive polynomial (disambiguation), one of two concepts
  • Antiderivative

In calculus, an antiderivative, primitive function, primitive integral or indefinite integral of a function f is a differentiable function F whose derivative is equal to the original function f. This can be stated symbolically as F= f. The process of solving for antiderivatives is called antidifferentiation (or indefinite integration) and its opposite operation is called differentiation, which is the process of finding a derivative.

Antiderivatives are related to definite integrals through the fundamental theorem of calculus: the definite integral of a function over an interval is equal to the difference between the values of an antiderivative evaluated at the endpoints of the interval.

The discrete equivalent of the notion of antiderivative is antidifference.

    Example

The function F(x) = x3/3 is an antiderivative of f(x) = x2. As the derivative of a constant is zero, x2 will have an infinite number of antiderivatives, such as x3/3, x3/3 + 1, x3/3 - 2, etc. Thus, all the antiderivatives of x2 can be obtained by changing the value of C in F(x) = x3/3 + C; where C is an arbitrary constant known as the constant of integration. Essentially, the graphs of antiderivatives of a given function are vertical translations of each other; each graph's vertical location depending upon the value of C.

    Primitive data type

In computer science, primitive data type is either of the following:

  • a basic type is a data type provided by a programming language as a basic building block. Most languages allow more complicated composite types to be recursively constructed starting from basic types.
  • a built-in type is a data type for which the programming language provides built-in support.
  • In most programming languages, all basic data types are built-in. In addition, many languages also provide a set of composite data types. Opinions vary as to whether a built-in type that is not basic should be considered "primitive".

Depending on the language and its implementation, primitive data types may or may not have a one-to-one correspondence with objects in the computer's memory. However, one usually expects operations on basic primitive data types to be the fastest language constructs there are. Integer addition, for example, can be performed as a single machine instruction, and some processors offer specific instructions to process sequences of characters with a single instruction. In particular, the C standard mentions that "a 'plain' int object has the natural size suggested by the architecture of the execution environment". This means that int is likely to be 32 bits long on a 32-bit architecture. Basic primitive types are almost always value types.

    Soulfly

Soulfly is a heavy metal band formed in 1997 and based in Phoenix, Arizona. The original lyrical content revolved around spirituality and religious themes, with later albums encompassing other themes including war, violence, aggression, slavery, hatred and anger. Soulfly is led by former Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera, who formed the band after he left the Brazilian group in 1996. The band has released ten studio albums, one tour EP, 19 singles, and one DVD video. Their debut album, Soulfly, was released on April 21, 1998, while their newest album, Archangel, was released on August 14, 2015.

Soulfly incorporates many styles of metal with Brazilian tribal and world music. All of their first six studio albums debuted on the United States Billboard 200, with a peak position at number 32 for their second album, Primitive.Soulfly has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The band has gone through numerous line-up changes, with Cavalera being the only constant member.

    Soulfly (album)

Soulfly is the self titled debut album by the metal band Soulfly, released on April 21, 1998 through Roadrunner Records. The record was released in memory of frontman Max Cavalera's murdered stepson and the first album featuring Cavalera since leaving Sepultura two years prior. Both CDs have the message In Loving Memory Dana printed across them. The album has been certified gold by the RIAA.

    Album information

The record features many guests, including members of Fear Factory, Limp Bizkit, Cypress Hill, Deftones, and Dub War.

"The Song Remains Insane" is pieced together by two other songs, opening with a cover of "Caos" by Ratos de Porão and secondly a brief reckless hardcore rendition of "Attitude" by Sepultura. "Umbabarauma" is a cover of a 1976 song by Brazilian musician Jorge Ben Jor, which originally featured on his album África Brasil.

The breakdown riff in "Tribe" originated during Max's time still in Sepultura - most likely created during on-the-road demo jams during the Roots tour though evidently never recorded in any complete demo form. As such, the riff was also used by Sepultura members Andreas Kisser and Igor Cavalera as the main riff to 'Walkman' during their scoring of the movie No Coracao Dos Deuses, recorded the same year as Soulfly's 'Tribe'.

    3 (Soulfly album)

3 is the third studio album by the metal band Soulfly released in 2002 through Roadrunner Records.3 has sold 195,000 copies as of March 11, 2008.

    Album information

The album artwork features an Aum (or Om), a symbol from Indian religions.

    Songs

Both of the first two tracks were the only singles released from the album, "Downstroy" and "Seek 'n' Strike."

"One" fuses growling vocals from Max Cavalera with gripping vocals from Ill Nino’s Christian Machado. The song uses this title as first word of the two word clauses per line: 'One soul / One heart / One man / One truth / One tribe / One life / One God'. "L.O.T.M" (acronym for "Last of the Mohicans") is a Native American-themed metal song named after the 1826 novel of the same name. "Brasil" is a Brazilian metal song, especially featuring berimbau, as well as several percussions performed by Cavalera. "Brasil" is about overcoming the poor government of Rio de Janeiro by praying the past.

"One Nation" plays a recorded pledge of allegiance to begin and end the song, since "One Nation" appears in pledge of allegiance. "One Nation" was originally recorded by Sacred Reich. "09-11-01" is a one-minute silence used for listeners to tribute to the victims of the September 11th, 2001 terrorism acts on the World Trade Center. "Call to Arms" is about addressing the terrorists in a usual way.

Maybe you would like to peek through the curtain
At the same mistake you know you always make
But all I really want to know is
Are you gonna lay the fuck back down
    Or jump the fuck up
Walkin' in the streets and lookin' at all this shit
I'm full of hate don't fuck with me
Walkin' in the streets and lookin' at all this shit
Open up your eyes and fuckin' see

And I don't care who stares or stays
The only thing that matters ends
Will you reach out if you can't resist
Maybe you don't give a shit for the rest of us
But if you do the time is now if it ever was
If you're gonna fight whatcha gonna do

Get ready for epitome come on and pity me
Will you kill me if I say please?
I'm the same old reasons not to try
