Brutus (Canadian band)

Brutus was a Canadian rock band formed in 1969 and active, with interruptions, between 1969 and 1978.

History

The original band consisted of Walter Zwolinski (then billed as "Wally Soul") as vocalist, Tom Wilson as bassist, Michael Magann on trumpet, Lance Wright on drums, Sonny Wingay on guitar, and Bill Robb on sax and trombone. The band was the opening act for popular Canadian and American acts that were touring Canada, such as The Guess Who and for Chicago at the University Of Waterloo.Their 1970 single "Funky Roller Skates" made it to #7 on RPM's list of Canadian Content songs receiving airplay, although the track did not cross over into the top 100.

Brutus disbanded in 1971, then reformed with a revised line-up and new look in 1973. They decided to add a theatrical flair to their stage act, similar to the glam rock bands that were popular in Britain during the same time. With a mixture of heavy makeup, wild costumes, and sexual innuendo, Brutus became a popular live act, but found few friends with the local authorities or concert organizers. Brutus' live performances reached a pinnacle with a sold out performance at Toronto's Ontario Place.

Sori, Liguria

Sori is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Genoa in the Italian region Liguria, located about 17 kilometres (11 mi) southeast of Genoa. Together with Camogli, Pieve Ligure, Bogliasco and Recco, it is part of the so-called Golfo Paradiso in the Riviera di Levante. Economy is based on tourism and production of olives.

The municipality of Sori contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Canepa, Capreno, Lago, Levà, Polanesi, San Bartolomeo di Busonengo, Sant’Apollinare, Sussisa, and Teriasca.

Sori borders the following municipalities: Avegno, Bargagli, Bogliasco, Genoa, Lumarzo, Pieve Ligure, Recco, Uscio.

History

According to some theories, Sori was founded by Greek emigrants around the 7th century BC. Most likely, the small port was also used by the Romans, although the first mention of the town dates to the early Middle Ages, when it was a possession of the bishops of Milan; later it was part of the Republic of Genoa.

In 1548 the town was sacked and ravagaed by 1500 pirates from North Africa. After the French domination, in 1815 Sori became part of the Kingdom of Sardinia, and from 1861 of the unified Kingdom of Italy.

SoRI-20041

SoRI-20041 is an "antagonist-like" allosteric modulator of amphetamine-induced dopamine release (in contrast to the related research chemicals SoRI-9804 and SoRI-20040, which are "agonist-like"). SoRI-20041 is believed to be the first example of a drug that separately modulates uptake versus release in the dopamine transporter (possibly showing how inward and outward transport represent distinct operational modes of DAT); it produced the same effects as SoRI-20040 and SoRI-9804 in uptake assays and binding assays, inhibiting the re-uptake of dopamine, but did not modulate d-amphetamine-induced DA release by inhibiting that as well, like 'agonists' of the series do.

This suggests the possibility of simultaneous action & increase of indirect-agonism through the dual-action of DRA & DRI efficacy existing together. Greatening of the inhibition of re-uptake at synaptic dopamine concentrations without interference to the flow of release of dopamine from amphetaminergic phosphorylation at the transporter so effected. This overcomes the obstacle of a compromised binding site which would be rendered unusable through the action of amphetamine. A site which conventional dopamine re-uptake inhibitors (such as cocaine or methylphenidate) would otherwise ineffectively target on each specific transporter so effected by amphetamine. Making this an example of a DRI that does not have a mutually exclusive functionality against DRA action at individual instances of DAT.

SoRI-9804

SoRI-9804 is a positive allosteric modulator of dopamine transporters. Unlike others in its series & traditional DRI ligands, it inhibits the release of dopamine in addition to inhibiting the reuptake of released dopamine back into the transporter.
