Somewhere Down the Road (album)

Somewhere Down the Road is the fourteenth studio album by Christian music and pop music singer-songwriter Amy Grant, released in 2010. It is a unique album featuring six brand new songs, two previously unreleased songs, a new recording of the classic 1982 song "Arms of Love", and rounded out with three of Grant's previously released story-songs.

The album title is taken from the title track, "Somewhere Down the Road", also a promotional single from Grant's 1997 album Behind the Eyes. The song was originally also featured on the first and only commercial single from the Behind the Eyes album, "Takes a Little Time". The painting featured on the cover of the album includes a painting by Grant, with the inscription Somewhere Down the Road. Grant gave the original painting as gift to her friend and publicist Jennifer Cooke.

Most of the new songs on the album were recorded in the new studio that Grant and her husband Vince Gill recently had built into their home. One of the songs on the album, "Overnight", is a duet recorded with Sarah Chapman, Grant's daughter. Grant wrote "Unafraid" about her mother.

Behind the Eyes

Behind the Eyes is the tenth studio album, and fifteenth album by Christian music and pop music singer Amy Grant, released in 1997 (see 1997 in music).

Issued near the end of Grant's marriage to Christian singer-songwriter Gary Chapman, many of the songs on Behind the Eyes reflect Grant's struggles in her marriage and all relate to a theme of optimism. Upon its release, it went to No. 2 on Billboard's Christian albums chart and No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Meanwhile, the first single from the album, "Takes a Little Time", was a Top Five Adult Contemporary hit and a Top Thirty pop chart single. "Like I Love You" and "I Will Be Your Friend" also reached the Adult Contemporary chart, at No. 10 and No. 27, respectively. The CD was also released in a limited two-CD version (with the second CD titled, More Music From Behind the Eyes).

In 2007, Behind the Eyes was reissued and digitally remastered by Grant's new record label, EMI/Sparrow Records, along with 13 other Amy Grant albums. The remastered edition is labeled with a "Digitally Remastered" logo in the 'gutter' on the CD front. Because of Grant's deal with her previous label, Word Records, the remastered editions of Behind the Eyes and A Christmas to Remember were not sold in Christian Music retailers such as Family Christian Stores or Lifeway Christian Resources until 2009. Until that time, Word Records continued to distribute those titles to Christian retailers in the original, non-remastered editions while EMI distributed the remastered editions to most major retailers. The 12 remaining remastered editions are distributed by EMI to all US retailers, both Christian and secular.

Down the Road (C2C song)

"Down the Road" is an English-language song by the French electronic music band C2C that was released on 25 June 2012 on the On And On. Taken from the same-titled EP Down the Road (2012), the song was written by Sylvain Richard, Guillaume Jaulin, Thomas Le Vexier, Pierre Forestier and Arnaud Fradin. The single reached the top of the SNEP chart, the official French Singles Chart. It was also a hit in Belgium and the Netherlands. The single also appears on the band debut album Tetra also released in 2012.

C2C sampled the vocals from Eddie Cusic's, “You Don't Have to Go” for "Down the Road".

Down the Road (Van Morrison album)

Down the Road is the twenty-ninth studio album by Northern Irish singer Van Morrison (see 2002 in music). The album has a nostalgic tone, lyrically and musically, and its arrangements mix R&B and blues with country and folk, and with a few exceptions, like "Georgia on My Mind," the music is most often rooted in 1950s and early 1960s popular music.

The album charted at #6 in the UK and #26 in the US, while consistently charting in the top 20 across Europe.

Recording

The album was originally recorded with singer and pianist Linda Gail Lewis within a month of the release of You Win Again. It was originally entitled Choppin' Wood, but Morrison re-recorded it, removing Linda Gail Lewis' contributions to the songs and deleting other songs from the album. Morrison recorded another nine songs to the album in late 2001 and retitled it Down the Road. The songs that were included were increased from an original ten to fifteen tracks and a lengthly sixty-seven minutes. One of the original songs, "Just Like Greta", that was not included on the album would appear on Morrison's 2005 release Magic Time, without a rerecording. It was finished by year's end in 2001 and released after numerous delays.

The Road

The Road is a 2006 novel by American writer Cormac McCarthy. It is a post-apocalyptic tale of a journey of a father and his young son over a period of several months, across a landscape blasted by an unspecified cataclysm that has destroyed most of civilization and, in the intervening years, almost all life on Earth. The novel was awarded the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction in 2006.

The book was adapted to a film by the same name in 2009, directed by John Hillcoat.

Plot summary

An unnamed father and his young son journey across a grim post-apocalyptic landscape, some years after an unspecified disaster has caused another extinction event, destroying civilization and most life on Earth. The land is filled with ash and devoid of living animals and vegetation. Many of the remaining human survivors have resorted to cannibalism, scavenging the detritus of city and country alike for flesh. The boy's mother, pregnant with him at the time of the disaster, gave up hope and committed suicide some time before the story began, despite the father's pleas. Much of the book is written in the third person, with references to "the father" and "the son" or to "the man" and "the boy".

Poetry of the Deed

Poetry of the Deed is the third studio album by London-based singer-songwriter Frank Turner, released on 7 September 2009. The album was released on Xtra Mile Recordings in the UK and Epitaph Records worldwide.

Unlike Turner's previous solo albums, Poetry of the Deed was rehearsed, arranged and recorded with his full band. In the album's liner notes, Turner states: "this album has been more of a collaborative process than on previous efforts, so first and foremost thanks are due to Ben Lloyd, Matt Nasir, Tarrant Anderson and Nigel Powell."

Background

After extensive touring behind the release of Love, Ire & Song in 2008, Turner began writing new material, with a few songs ("Live Fast, Die Old" & "Dan's Song") appearing at gigs in late 2008.

Before recording the album, Turner and his band played four gigs in Oxford in order to road-test 14 new songs. Turner kept fans up to date during the writing and recording of the album via his blog.

The album was produced by Alex Newport. Recording took place at Leeders Farm in Norwich and the producer's own Future Shock Studio in Brooklyn, NYC.
