Someday (short story)

"Someday" is a science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov. It was first published in the August 1956 issue of Infinity Science Fiction and reprinted in the collections Earth Is Room Enough (1957), The Complete Robot (1982), Robot Visions (1990), and The Complete Stories, Volume 1 (1990).

Plot summary

The story is set in a future where computers play a central role in organizing society. Humans are employed as computer operators, but they leave most of the thinking to machines. Indeed, whilst binary programming is taught at school, reading and writing have become obsolete.

The story concerns a pair of boys who dismantle and upgrade an old Bard, a child's computer whose sole function is to generate random fairy tales. The boys download a book about computers into the Bard's memory in an attempt to expand its vocabulary, but the Bard simply incorporates computers into its standard fairy tale repertoire. The story ends with the boys excitedly leaving the room after deciding to go to the library to learn "squiggles" (writing) as a means of passing secret messages to one another. As they leave, one of the boys accidentally kicks the Bard's on switch. The Bard begins reciting a new story about a poor mistreated and often ignored robot called the Bard, whose sole purpose is to tell stories, which ends with the words: "the little computer knew then that computers would always grow wiser and more powerful until someday—someday—someday—…"

"Someday" is a song by the indie rock band The Strokes, and the third single from Is This It. It peaked at #17 on the U.S. Alternative Songs chart and at #27 on the U.K. Singles Chart.

The music video for the song was directed by Roman Coppola and features appearances by Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum - the guitarist, bassist, and drummer from Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver - as well as the members of Guided by Voices. The video also features Richard Karn as himself, while The Strokes take on Guided by Voices in a fictional game of Family Feud.

Exposure is the fourth novel in the Virals series of novels for young adults written by the American forensic anthropologist and crime writer, Kathy Reichs and her son Brendan Reichs, featuring Tory Brennan, great-niece of Temperance Brennan.

Plot

The story starts some time after the ending of Code, the third book in the series. However, it's not long before things start to go wrong. Twins Lucy and Peter Gable, classmates of the Virals, have been kidnapped, and the police seem baffled. The Virals decide to investigate, but matters become worse when Tory's best female friend, Ella, goes missing as well.

This is a list of episodes of the Japanese animated TV series Planetes (プラネテス, Puranetesu, Ancient Greek: πλάνητες "Wanderers") It began airing its 26 episode run on NHK BS-2 on October 4, 2003 and ended on February 23, 2004. Produced and animated by Sunrise, it was directed by Gorō Taniguchi and scripted by Ichirō Ōkouchi (both of whom would later reunite in 2006 to work on the Sunrise original production Code Geass). The anime began development and production before the end of the manga serialization. In the beginning and middle of the series, the writing and production staff only had the first three volumes of the manga as source. In order to fill the entire 26 episode run of the anime, new characters, new settings and new relationships between characters were made in order to increase dramatic tension, reinforce themes introduced in the manga, and introduce new themes that were compatible with the manga. While the manga deals more with existential themes, and humanity's relationship with space, the anime further expands the political elements of the story.

Exposure (Peet novel)

Exposure is a sports novel for young adults by Mal Peet, published by Walker Books in 2008. Inspired by William Shakespeare's Othello, the story follows Otello, a black football player and his high-profile relationship with Desmerelda, a white celebrity. It also has a parallel plot about three street kids trying to live life in abject poverty.

Peet and Exposure won the annual Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, a once-in-a-lifetime book award judged by a panel of British children's writers.

Walker's North American division Candlewick Press published the first U.S. edition in 2009.
