Belouis Some

Belouis Some (born Neville Keighley, 12 December 1959) is a British musician. He had hits in the 1980s with "Some People", "Round Round" (produced by Bernard Edwards, which appeared on the soundtrack album to the film Pretty in Pink), plus "Imagination" which also achieved success on the UK Singles Chart, and can be heard in the films Ghost Chase (Hollywood-Monster) and The Business. "Some People" and "Imagination" also charted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1985.

Career

Keighley attended Dulwich Prep London and Royal Russell School in London, England. He started performing as Belouis Some in 1983 and was signed to Parlophone releasing his first album, Some People, in 1985. After initial production in London with Ian Little and Pete Schwier, the album was produced by Steve Thompson and Michael Barbiero in New York. Guitarist Carlos Alomar arranged and played on the sessions along with Bernard Edwards, Tony Thompson, Dave Lebolt, Jimmy Maelen, Carmine Rojas, Lenny Pickett, Guy Fletcher, Chester Kamen, Robin Clark and Earl Slick. The video for the first single release, "Imagination", was directed by Storm Thorgerson and caused controversy as it contained full frontal nudity. The video for the second single, "Some People", also directed by Thorgerson, was used as a Swatch television advertisement in the U.S.

Background

The release of Some's debut solo album Some People in 1985 spawned two hits the following year; "Imagination" and "Some People", both of which were Top 40 UK hits and Top 10 American Hot Dance Club Play hits. After his initial chart success and extensive touring, he appeared at Knebworth on a bill supporting Queen, with Big Country and Status Quo in August 1986. The late 1986 single "Jerusalem" had also peaked at #98 in the UK. Soon after, Some recorded his second album, Belouis Some in New York, which was produced by Gary Langan and Guy Fletcher. Pete Townshend and Julian Lennon made guest appearances on the record, while Phil Harding mixed "Let It Be with You". Of the nine tracks, Some solely wrote five of the songs and co-wrote the rest, three of which were co-written with producer Guy Fletcher. "Some Girls" was co-written by Carlos Alomar.

The album was recorded at Right Track in New York City, and mixed at both the Eel Pie in Twickenham and Maison Rouge in London. Additional recording was at Counterpoint, Hit Factory, Roundhouse & Beat Factory.

Lace Around the Wound

Lace Around the Wound is the second album by American singer, actress and musician E.G. Daily, which was released in 1989. In the UK, the album was titled Fly.

Background

The album signaled a change in direction for Daily from synthpop to pop-rock. The album's lead single, "Some People," peaked at #33 on the American Dance Chart. After A&M failed to sufficiently promote the album, Daily parted ways with the label.

The album was produced by various producers, largely Lotti Golden and Tommy Faragher, both American musicians and producers. Daily wrote several songs with the pair, and would also produce two tracks herself. Another track was produced by keyboardist and producer John Van Tongeren and two tracks were produced by Glenn Skinner and Pete Glenister. Skinner is a producer of many artists including Curiosity Killed the Cat, Lighthouse Family, Boy George, and Deborah Harry. Glenister is an English musician and producer, best known for his work with Alison Moyet.

Because of the limited success of the album, Daily wouldn't release another album until 1999, which was titled Tearing Down the Walls. This album would be released under Daily's own record label.

Some People (LeAnn Rimes song)

"Some People" is a song by LeAnn Rimes, released as the fourth and final single from her album This Woman (2005). The single was released to radio stations in August 2006. The song is written by Darrell Brown, Joanna Cotten and Dennis Matkosky. A music video was also released featuring Rimes and her ex-husband, Dean Sheremet, at a carnival. The song was also included on her international album, Whatever We Wanna (2006). The single peaked as high as 34 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

"Some People" was released to country radio stations in August 2006 as the final single from Rimes' album, This Woman. The song was included on her international album, Whatever We Wanna. The song has a total of four version. The version on This Woman is more country oriented while on Whatever We Wanna it is more pop oriented and extended. A radio remix of the song was also released. The music video includes a different version of the song than was heard on either album.
