Some Nights

Some Nights is the second studio album from American band Fun. (stylized as "fun."). It was released on February 21, 2012 through Fueled by Ramen. It was recorded in 2011 and produced by Jeff Bhasker. After signing to a new label, the band began to work on Some Nights for over nine months throughout 2011. In some countries, the album received a Parental Advisory sticker due to the usage of the word "fuck" in the album's title track and "Some Nights (Intro)". In the United States, it was added after the album was released, and after the title track had passed the height of its success.

"We Are Young" was released as the lead single from the album and bolstered the band to mainstream success with the aid of television and advertising. It topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks and Alternative Songs for two weeks, with over six million digital downloads. The title track was commissioned as the second single and has reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, selling 6.8 million digital downloads as well as becoming their second #1 on Alternative Songs. The album has received mixed reviews according to Metacritic. The band later won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and "We Are Young" won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year. Fun received four other Grammy nominations: two for "We Are Young" and two for the album itself.

Nights (character)

Nights (trademarked and officially written as NiGHTS) is a video game character from the games Nights into Dreams... and Nights: Journey of Dreams, developed and published by Sega. Nights is a "Nightmaren" who resides in Nightopia, a dream world where the dreams of all human beings are acted out every night.

Creation and conception

Naoto Oshima was the original Nights creator and designer, while Kazuyuki Hoshino was the character designer for the video game Nights into Dreams.... By the time of its sequel, Nights: Journey of Dreams, Naoto Oshima had left Sega, and Kazuyuki Hoshino was placed in charge of character design for the game.Takashi Iizuka, the lead game designer, felt that, with Hoshino, they captured the style used for the character in the original game.

Nights' personality is described by Iizuka as "a mirror of the child's personality." Nights' speaking role in Journey of Dreams was performed by Julissa Aguirre, who gave the character an English accent. In addition, Nights was made genderless, leaving the impression of the character "totally up to the player", according to Iizuka.

Sleepless Nights (Lindisfarne album)

Sleepless Nights is a 1982 album by English rock band Lindisfarne. It was the first album to be released on the group's own record label, and peaked at position 59 in the UK album charts.

Production

Sleepless Nights was produced and engineered by Stephen Lipson. It was recorded at Ridge Farm Studio, Chipping Norton and Marquee Studios.

Chart performance, single releases and critical response

Sleepless Nights appeared in the UK album charts at #59 in October 1982. This proved to be the album's peak position, and it spent only three weeks in the chart.

Three tracks from the album were released as singles. The first, "I Must Stop Going To Parties", received a large amount of radio airplay but did not chart. It was followed by "Sunderland Boys" and "Nights", both of which proved unsuccessful.

The album received mixed reviews. Bruce Elder of Allmusic rated the album at only two out of five stars. Duke Egbert, writing for The Daily Vault, stated in a review of the 1999 live album Live At The Cambridge Folk Festival that he considered Sleepless Nights to be one of the "highlights of the band's career". In his 2004 BBC Radio 2 review of The River Sessions, Clive Pownceby praised two tracks from the album, "Same Way Down" and "Nights".

Nights into Dreams...

Nights into Dreams... (ナイツ, Naitsu, stylised as NiGHTS into Dreams...) is an action video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Sega Saturn in 1996. The story follows two teenagers, Claris and Elliot, who enter a dream world called Nightopia where all dreams take place. With the help of an exiled "Nightmaren", Nights, they begin a journey to stop Wizeman, an evil ruler, from destroying Nightopia and consequently the real world. Gameplay is centred around Nights flying through Claris and Elliot's dreams in order to gather enough energy to defeat Wizeman and save Nightopia. The game is presented in 3D and imposes time limits in every level, in which the player must accumulate enough points in order to proceed.

Development began soon after the release of Sonic & Knuckles in 1994, although the concept originated during the development of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Development was led by Sonic Team veterans Yuji Naka, Naoto Ohshima, and Takashi Iizuka. Naka began the project with the central idea being flight, and Oshima designed the character Nights to resemble an angel that could fly like a bird. Oshima also designed Nights specifically as an androgynous character. The team conducted research on dreaming and REM sleep, and was influenced by the works and theories of psychotherapists Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. An analogue controller, known as the Saturn 3D controller, was designed alongside the game and was exclusively included with some retail copies sold.
