Soledad Pass

Soledad Pass, elevation 3,209 ft (978 m), is a mountain pass in northern Los Angeles County, California.

It is located at the highest point along Soledad Canyon, which winds between the Sierra Pelona Mountains to the northwest and the San Gabriel Mountains to the southeast. The pass provides a direct route between the Santa Clara River watershed and the Antelope Valley of the western Mojave Desert.

Transportation route

Soledad Pass is the lowest crossing of the Great Basin Divide between the Sierra Nevada and the San Bernardino Mountains, so it is traversed by one railroad line and three highways.

The railroad route is a former main line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, now part of Union Pacific Railroad. The importance of the railroad line for freight traffic diminished with the completion of the Palmdale Cutoff over Cajon Pass in the 1960s. The route is now used for the Antelope Valley Line of the Metrolink commuter rail system. The Vincent Grade/Acton station lies near the summit of Soledad Pass. A proposed alignment of the California High Speed Rail system utilizes this mountain pass.

Giovanni Passerini was an Italian botanist and entomologist, born on June 16, 1816 in Pieve di Guastalla. He died on April 17, 1893 in Parma .

Giovanni Passerini was a professor of botany at the University of Parma. He is the author of several works on the aphids. His collection, of 5, 500 specimens in 52 genera kinds and 89 species, is in the Natural history museum of the University of Parma.

Soledad (Spanish pronunciation: [soleˈðað]) is a municipality in the Colombian Departments of Colombia of Atlántico part of the metropolitan area of Barranquilla. It is 6th in population in Colombia and 3rd in the Caribbean region, after Barranquilla and Cartagena. It is also the city with the highest population growth in Colombia and in 2005 was 455,734 and 2010 580,851. On October 25th 2015 Joao Herrera Iranzo was elected by popular vote as the new mayor of Soledad.

Limitations

Bordered on the north by the special district of Barranquilla, where the boundary is the Arroyo Don Juan, on the south by Malambo, on the east with the Department of Magdalena, separated by the Magdalena River, and on the west by Galapa.
