Sold! is an American reality television series on History that premiered on April 11, 2012. The series chronicles the activities of Rick Bryant, owner of Bryant Auctions, and his team located in Missouri. Each episode details the process of auctioning, showing the appraisal, acquisition and eventual auctioning of the items.

"Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)" is a song written by Richard Fagan and Robb Royer, and recorded by American country music artist John Michael Montgomery. It was released in May 1995 as the second single from his self-titled album. It hit number-one on the country charts in the United States and Canada in July 1995. It is one of Montgomery's best-known songs and was named Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks' number-one single for 1995.

Content

The song is uptempo, the narrator telling about a woman he saw at the Grundy County, Tennessee Auction and how trying to win her heart was like an auction.

Critical reception

Deborah Evans Price, of Billboard magazine reviewed the song favorably, saying that it demonstrates Montgomery's "ability to deliver tongue-twisting lyrics in rapid fire fashion."

Music video

The music video was directed by Martin Kahan and features Montgomery at a livestock auction.

Sold (McCormick novel)

Sold is a novel by Patricia McCormick, published in 2006. It tells the story of a girl from Nepal named Lakshmi, who is sold into sexual slavery in India. The novel is written in a series of short, vignette-style chapters, from the point of view of the main character. The 2014 movie Sold by Oscar-winning director Jeffrey D. Brown is based on the same novel.

Plot

Lakshmi is a thirteen-year-old girl living with her family in a small hut in the mountains of Nepal. Her family is desperately poor, but her life is full of simple pleasures, like raising her black-and-white speckled goat, and having her mother brush her hair by the light of an oil lamp. But when the harsh Himalayan monsoons wash away all that remains of the family’s crops, Lakshmi’s stepfather says she must leave home and take a job to support her family....

He introduces her to a charming stranger who tells her she will find her a job as a maid working for a wealthy woman in the city. Glad to be able to help, Lakshmi undertakes the long journey to India and arrives at “Happiness House” full of hope. But she soon learns the horrible truth: she has been sold into prostitution.

Sold (1915 film)

Sold was a 1915 American silent drama film produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Based on George Erastov's play of the same name (which was an adaptation of the Henri Bernstein French play Le Secret), the film starred stage actress Pauline Frederick and was directed by Hugh Ford and Edwin S. Porter. The film was re-released in 1919 by Paramount. It is now considered lost.

Plot

Sold illustrates the story of Lakshmi who after being trafficked journeys from a rural village in Nepal to a brothel called Happiness House in Kolkata, India. She risks everything for freedom from the brothel.
