Solan

Solan is the district headquarters of Solan district (created on 1 September 1972) in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The largest Municipal Council of Himachal Pradesh, it is located 46 kilometres (29 mi) south of the state capital, Shimla. At an average elevation of 1,600 metres (5,200 ft). The place is named after the Hindu goddess Shoolini devi. Every year in the month of June, a fair celebrating the goddess is held, featuring a 3-day mela at the central Thoudo grounds. Solan was the capital of the erstwhile princely state, Bhagat.

It is known as the "Mushroom city of India" because of the vast mushroom farming in the area as well as the Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR) situated at Chambaghat. Solan is crowned as the "City of Red Gold", in reference to the bulk production of tomatoes in the area. The town is situated between Chandigarh (joint capital of Punjab and Harayana) and Shimla (state capital), on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway-22. The Kalka-Shimla narrow gauge heritage railway line, built by the British passes through Solan.

Main characters

  • Hercules (portrayed by Kevin Sorbo as an adult, Ian Bohen as young Hercules in flashbacks, Ryan Gosling as young Hercules in Young Hercules) - Son of Zeus and Alcmene.
  • Iolaus (portrayed by Michael Hurst as an adult, and Dean O'Gorman as young Iolaus in flashbacks and in Young Hercules) - Hercules' sidekick, best friend, and companion.
  • Xena (portrayed by Lucy Lawless and Hudson Leick) - Once a power-hungry warlord, she was shown the error of her ways by Hercules and later repented and renounced her old life as an evil warrior. However, as she was about to turn her back on her old life, she came across a group of young girls destined to be sold into slavery, one of which was Gabrielle, who later allied and morally guided Xena in her adventurous journeys. Xena is considered to be a counterpart of Hercules, despite her supposed pure-mortal blood-status. She is considered extremely powerful in the spiritual world, having defeated Alti on many occasions.

    Solan (Xena: Warrior Princess)

    Solan is a fictional character in the television series Xena: Warrior Princess, he is played by David Taylor, and later by Nicko Vella.

    Biography

    He is the Son of Xena and Borias. During Xena's pregnancy with Solan, Alti cursed her unborn child, in order to prevent Xena changing her dark ways as Alti knew that Xena's child would eventually bring Xena back to the light. Xena escaped from Alti. However, the prophecy would later be fulfilled and Solan never knew the love of either of his parents. Shortly after Xena gives birth to him, Borias is killed by Dagnine and a woman named Satrina, Xena's ex-slave. Borias's abandonment and death made Xena eventually realize what a monster she had become. Afraid she would be a bad influence on her child, She gave her newborn son Solan to the centaur Kaleipus, because she believed that he did not deserve a mother like her, and so he would be raised in safety and away from her dangerous influence or a target to her enemies. So, Solan never knew his father, or that the ex-warlord Xena was his mother.
