Taipei American School (traditional Chinese: 台北美國學校; simplified Chinese: 台北美国学校; pinyin: Táiběi Měiguó Xuéxiào; Wade–Giles: T'ai-pei Mei-kuo Hsüeh-hsiao; abbreviation TAS) is a private independent school with an American-based curriculum located in Tianmu (T'ien-mu), Shilin District (Shih-lin), Taipei City.
Founded in 1949, the school served as a U.S. Department of Defense contract school during the U.S. military presence in Taiwan from the 1950s to 1970s. Upon the termination of diplomatic relations between the United States and the ROC in 1979, TAS was reorganized into a private international school. The school is operated by the Taipei American School Foundation under contract to the American Institute in Taiwan, the United States' quasi-embassy in Taiwan.
Most graduates of TAS go on to attend colleges and universities in United States, although some choose to attend schools in other countries. As required by ROC law, TAS admits only students who hold foreign (i.e. non-ROC) passports.
Pure gold is slightly reddish yellow in color, but colored gold in various other colors can be produced.
Colored golds can be classified to three groups:
Pure 100% gold is 24 karat by definition, so all colored golds are less than this, with the common being 18K (75%), 14K (58%), and 9K (38%).
White gold is an alloy of gold and at least one white metal, usually nickel, manganese or palladium. Like yellow gold, the purity of white gold is given in karats.
White gold's properties vary depending on the metals and proportions used. As a result, white gold alloys can be used for many different purposes; while a nickel alloy is hard and strong and therefore good for rings and pins, gold-palladium alloys are soft, pliable and good for white gold gemstone settings, sometimes with other metals like copper, silver, and platinum for weight and durability, although this often requires specialized goldsmiths. The term white gold is used very loosely in the industry to describe karat gold alloys with a whitish hue. It is a common misconception that the color of the rhodium plating, which is seen on many commercial pieces, is actually the color of white gold. The term "white" covers a large spectrum of colors that borders or overlaps pale yellow, tinted brown, and even very pale rose. The jewelry industry often conceals these off-white colors by rhodium plating.
Soft Black is a Brooklyn-based band fronted by Vincent Cacchione. Much of Soft Black's lyrical content deals with Cacchione's dreams and nightmares. The band's sound was described as "a kind of bizarro-world Neil Young," as well as "[going] against the grain of [Brooklyn]’s more fashionable musical styles."
Soft Black began as a regular act at the Sidewalk Cafe in Manhattan, and became a staple of the Brooklyn underground music scene during the late 2000s, releasing three full-length albums between 2005 and 2009: Ramblin' Down a Dead End Street, Blue Gold and The Earth Is Black. The band's latest release, the EP We Scatter Light, was released in 2011.
Frontman Cacchione also is a member of the band Caged Animals, along with his wife Megali Francoise and sister Talya Cacchione, and has performed with Shilpa Ray.
Original guitarist Zachary Cole Smith later found fame with his own band DIIV, formed in 2011 (he also performed as the touring guitarist for Beach Fossils).
Bridge to the city
We're driving in late
You're hanging up on me just a mile away
Song on the radio
Such a beautiful tune
Oh, life would be pretty if those words were true
Go back to bed, babe
I'm coming home
But don't fall asleep yet,
not on your own
I saw a star on the horizon
A bit alone, a little cold
But now the sun is rising,
there'll be blue gold
I knew it was you, then
The first time you smiled
I knew when I touched you I was fine for a while
Song on the radio
And the air of the streets
You followed them down, you put me back on my feet
Go back to bed, babe
I'm coming home
But don't fall asleep yet,
not on your own
I saw a star on the horizon
A bit alone, a little cold
But now the sun is rising,
