Crush (OMD album)

Crush is the sixth album by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, released in 1985. It was the first of two OMD albums produced by Stephen Hague, who had previously produced albums by Jules and the Polar Bears, Slow Children, Elliot Easton, Gleaming Spires and others.

"So in Love" (co-written with Hague) became the group's first hit single in the US. The album also sold well in the US. Aimed primarily at the US market, it is notable for moving the band's sound in a far more commercial direction, although elements of earlier experimentation are still evident on the title track, which is built around a tape loop of samples from Japanese television commercials, and the closing track "The Lights Are Going Out". A long-form video, Crush - The Movie was also released, showing the group talking about their career and performing the songs from the album.

In a 2013 online poll, Crush was voted the 23rd best album of 1985 based on the opinions of over 45,000 respondents.

Shin Hyo-seob (born May 3, 1992), professionally known as Crush (hangul: 크러쉬), is a South Korean R&B and hip hop artist under Amoeba Culture. He debuted in 2012 with the single "Red Dress".

Career

Crush made his official debut with the single "Red Dress" featuring TakeOne on December 7, 2012. In the following year, he released two singles, "Crush On You" and "어디 갈래 (Where Do You Wanna Go)" which featured Taewan and Gary.

He released another single in April 2014, called "가끔 (Sometimes)". He also collaborated with Gaeko for the single "Hug Me". In August, he sang "잠 못드는 밤 (Sleepless Night)" for the OST of the SBS Drama It's Okay, That's Love. He then released the song "SOFA" in October.

In 2015, he collaborated with Zion.T for the single "그냥 (Just)". The song was released on January 30, 2015, and debuted at #1 on the Gaon Singles Chart. They also won Best Collaboration & Unit at the 17th Mnet Asian Music Awards. In July, he released the single "Oasis" which featured Block B's Zico. He also held his first solo concert Crush On You from November 13 to 14.

Submarine snorkel

A submarine snorkel is a device which allows a submarine to operate submerged while still taking in air from above the surface. British Navy personnel often refer to it as the snort.

History

Until the advent of nuclear power, submarines were designed to operate on the surface most of the time and submerge only for evasion or for daylight attacks. In 1940, at night, a U-boat was safer on the surface than submerged because ASDIC sonar could detect boats underwater but was almost useless against a surface vessel. However, with continued improvement in methods of radar detection as the war progressed, the U-boat was forced to spend more time under water running on electric motors that gave speeds of only a few knots and with very limited range.

An early submarine snorkel was designed by James Richardson, an Assistant Manager at Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Greenock, Scotland as early as 1916, during World War I. Although the company received a British Patent for the design, no further use was made of it—the British Admiralty did not accept it for use in Royal Navy submarines. In November 1926 Capt. Pericle Ferretti of the technical corps of the Italian Navy ran tests with a ventilation pipe installed on the submarine H 3. The tests were largely successful and a similar system was designed for the Sirena class, but was eventually scrapped; the following snorkel systems were not based on Ferretti's design.

Soda (TV series)

Soda is a French television series produced by CALT. The series follows Adam, an 18-year-old high school student as he struggles with amusing yet realistic everyday issues. His group of friends are always there to help him through it all.

Features

An episode lasts twenty four minutes, each divided into sequences of three minutes and a half The shooting takes place in Bry-Sur-Marne. Its title, Soda, is the anagram of the word “ados”(teenager in French) ( which is explicitly shown at the beginning of the first credits.)

Adam is a normal teenager, he lives a quiet life in high school (although he never gets good grades), he has two friends, Slimane and Ludovic. He is in love with the most beautiful girl of the high school, Jenna, who will never reciprocate his feelings. He is the oldest child in a middle-class family. His father, Michel, works in a bank and his mother Elizabeth (aka Babeth) is a beautician who has her own home business (her only regular customer is Malika, Slimane’s mother). Dreaming of having a golden life in the US, Adam thinks that this American Dream will fall straight into his hands so he has decided to do whatever he wants with his life, that is, not working in class, playing video-games again and again and doing bad pranks on the high school supervisors (Thierry and Patrick). However, his family compromises his American Dream by being very strict towards him, with his little sister’s bad tricks and by the numerous detentions gets by his high school’s director, Ms Vergneaux.
