Salvo

Salvo is the G.I. Joe Team's Anti-Armor Trooper. His real name is David K. Hasle, and he was born in Arlington, Virginia. Salvo was first released as an action figure in 1990, and again in 2005. Both versions have the T-shirt slogan 'The Right of Might'.

Salvo's primary military specialty is anti-armor trooper. He also specializes in repairing "TOW/Dragon" missiles. Salvo expresses a deep distrust of advanced electronic weaponry. He prefers to use mass quantities of conventional explosives to overwhelm enemy forces.

In the Marvel Comics G.I. Joe series, he first appeared in issue #114. There, he fights as part of a large scale operation against Cobra forces in the fictional country of Benzheen. Steeler, Dusty, Salvo, Rock'N'Roll and Hot Seat get into vehicular based combat against the missile expert Metal-Head He is later part of the Joe team on-site who defends G.I. Joe headquarters in Utah against a Cobra assault.

Snow Storm: Steam-Boat off a Harbour's Mouth

Snow Storm, or Snow Storm: Steam-Boat off a Harbour's Mouth, (full title: Snow Storm - Steam-Boat off a Harbour's Mouth Making Signals in Shallow Water, and going by the Lead. The Author was in this Storm on the Night the "Ariel" left Harwich) is a painting by the English artist J. M. W. Turner (1775 - 1851) from 1842.

Though panned by many contemporary critics, critic John Ruskin commented in 1843 that it was "one of the very grandest statements of sea-motion, mist and light, that has ever been put on canvas".

History

An inscription on the painting relates that The Author was in this Storm on the Night the "Ariel" left Harwich. There is a story that Turner asked to be tied to the mast of a steam-ship during a nocturnal storm at sea, to experience the feeling of it, and was there for four hours. He was 67 years then. Some later commentators doubt the literal truth of this account. Other critics accept Turner's account, and one wrote, "He empathized completely with the dynamic form of sovereign nature." This inscription allows us to better understand the scene represented and the confusion of elements.
