Slew rate

In electronics, slew rate is defined as the maximum rate of change of output voltage per unit of time and is expressed as volts per second. Limitations in slew rate capability can give rise to non-linear effects in electronic amplifiers. For a sinusoidal waveform not to be subject to slew rate limitation, the slew rate capability (in volts per second) at all points in an amplifier must satisfy the following condition:

where f is the operating frequency, and is the peak amplitude of the waveform.

In mechanics the slew rate is given in dimensions 1/T and is associated with the change in position over time of an object which orbits around the observer. Slew rate can also be measured in degrees per second.

In mathematics, a rate is the ratio between two related quantities Often it is a rate of change. If the unit or quantity in respect of which something is changing is not specified, usually the rate is per unit of time. However, a rate of change can be specified per unit of time, or per unit of length or mass or another quantity. The most common type of rate is "per unit of time", such as speed, heart rate and flux. Ratios that have a non-time denominator include exchange rates, literacy rates and electric field (in volts/meter).

In describing the units of a rate, the word "per" is used to separate the units of the two measurements used to calculate the rate (for example a heart rate is expressed "beats per minute"). A rate defined using two numbers of the same units (such as tax rates) or counts (such as literacy rate) will result in a dimensionless quantity, which can be expressed as a percentage (for example, the global literacy rate in 1998 was 80%) or fraction or as a multiple.

The Slew

The Slew is a multinational electronic music project, consisting of Canadian DJ Kid Koala, American Dynomite D, and Australian rock musicians Chris Ross and Myles Heskett, formerly of the band Wolfmother.

The group first came together in 2005, when Kid Koala and Dynomite D were approached to compose music for the soundtrack to a documentary film by filmmaker Jay Rowlands. While the film eventually fell through, the group continued to collaborate on music, and released an album, 100%, in 2009.

In August 2010, Kid Koala stated in an interview that he had begun working on a second album, which is due to feature vocals from Jon Spencer and Mike Patton. The new album, unlike the first, will be composed of samples provided by the instrumentalists in the studio.

Slew (spacecraft)

Slew and slewing are a terms which can refer to a spacecraft's orientation or movement in reference to a plane or fixed position such as Earth, the Sun, another celestial body or other point in space.

During space flight, a craft's attitude must be controlled for reasons dependent upon the craft's mission. Keeping a spacecraft slewed properly is vital toward ensuring that its high-gain antenna remains oriented toward Earth for sending and receiving data and commands. Additionally with many craft, keeping their solar arrays angled toward the Sun optimizes their power absorption and reduces the craft's reliance on internal power systems. Thermal heating and cooling of a craft and its subsystems can also be controlled by the craft's orientation. Cameras or other sensing equipment that are fixed into position upon the craft need to be aimed by slewing the craft. A spacecraft can either be spin stabilized or 3-axis stabilized to maintain proper orientation.

For spin-stabilized spacecraft, slewing is accomplished by applying a (significant) torque to the spacecraft, in general by operating a thruster in synchronous or asynchronous direction to its spin to adjust its spin rate. This results in a precession and slews for this kind of spacecraft are therefore also called "precession manoeuvre."
