Slash (album)

Slash is the eponymous debut solo album by former Guns N' Roses guitarist and songwriter Slash. The album was produced by Eric Valentine and features multiple musicians, including four of the five members of the Appetite for Destruction-era Guns N' Roses lineup: Slash himself, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler.

History and recording

In his 2007 autobiography, Slash mentioned he was planning a solo album, and listed some of the vocalists with whom he would like to work. He stated that the album would be called Slash & Friends (although & Friends was later dropped from the title). Slash's wife Perla mentioned in a 2008 interview that the album would include "everyone from Ozzy Osbourne to Fergie."

On January 16, Slash made an appearance at the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show where it was announced that his debut solo album will be released in the U.S. on April 6. The CD will be made available in Europe via Roadrunner Records.

On January 19, 2010, Slash teamed up with Linkin Park's Music for Relief, along with Alanis Morissette, The All-American Rejects and others, and donated a previously unreleased track to aid the victims of the earthquake tragedy in Haiti. The song released was titled "Mother Maria" and featured Beth Hart. According to the track listing, "Mother Maria" will be featured as an iTunes bonus track for the record.

! is an album by The Dismemberment Plan. It was released on October 2, 1995, on DeSoto Records. The band's original drummer, Steve Cummings, played on this album but left shortly after its release.

Album

Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 ¹⁄₃ rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.

An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.

Slash (also known as Sister Agony) is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics Universe, most notably as a member of the Sisters of Sin.

Publication history

Sister Agony first appeared in Captain America #294-296 (June-August 1984), and was created by J.M. DeMatteis and Paul Neary.

The character subsequently appears in Captain America #298-299 (October-November 1984), and #301 (January 1985). The character subsequently appears as Slash in #355-357 (July-September 1989), and I ♥ Marvel: Outlaw Love (April 2006).

Slash appeared as part of the "Sisters of Sin" entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Update '89 #7.

Fictional character biography

A member of the Sisters of Sin, Slash was a young disciple of the Red Skull. Her physical age was accelerated into an old woman, calling herself Sister Agony because of the razor-sharp talons she had in place of her hands. She and her Sisters attacked Captain America but were defeated. She was eventually restored to her natural age. However, soon after, she returned alongside the Sisters of Sin, this time as a young adult. She and her sisters were once again defeated by Captain America.

Slash (autobiography)

Slash is an autobiography written by rock guitarist Slash with Anthony Bozza.

Most of the book focuses on Slash's years with Guns N' Roses, including many rock star cliches: trashed hotel rooms, groupies, drug abuse, etc. Slash talks about Axl Rose, frontman of Guns N' Roses, and his departure from the band in the mid-1990s. He explains that Axl's inability to show up to gigs and rehearsals on time, in addition to Axl's almost dictator-like control of the band contributed to the band's downfall. Slash also states that Axl wanted to change the musical direction of the band to include more synthesizers and effects, rather than guitar-driven rock as with their earlier material.

Slash relates how he eventually achieved stability and sobriety after his second marriage and the birth of two sons.

Saul Hudson (born July 23, 1965), known professionally as Slash, is a British and American musician and songwriter. He is best known as the lead guitarist of the American hard rock band Guns N' Roses, with whom he achieved worldwide success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. During his later years with Guns N' Roses, Slash formed the side project Slash's Snakepit. After leaving Guns N' Roses in 1996, he co-founded the supergroup Velvet Revolver, which re-established him as a mainstream performer in the mid to late 2000s. Slash has since released three solo albums, Slash (2010), featuring an array of famous guest musicians, Apocalyptic Love (2012) and World on Fire (2014) recorded with singer/guitarist Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge, along with rhythm section Brent Fitz and Todd Kerns, known on the album as The Conspirators. Slash returned to Guns N' Roses in 2016.

Slash has received critical acclaim as a guitarist. Time named him runner-up on their list of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players" in 2009, while Rolling Stone placed him at No. 65 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 2011.Guitar World ranked his solo in "November Rain" No. 6 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Guitar Solos" in 2008, and Total Guitar placed his riff in "Sweet Child o' Mine" at No. 1 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Riffs" in 2004.
