Southern Tenant Farmers Union
The Southern Tenant Farmers' Union (STFU) was founded in 1934 as a civil farmer's union to further organize the tenant farmers in the Southern United States.
Originally set up during the Great Depression in the United States, the reasons for the establishment of the STFU are numerous, although they are all largely centered upon money and working conditions. Predominantly, the STFU was established as a response to policies of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA). The AAA itself was designed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to help revive the United States' agricultural industry and to recharge the depressed economy.
The AAA called for a reduction in food production, which would, through a controlled shortage of food, raise the price for any given food item through supply and demand. The desired effect was that the agricultural industry would once again prosper due to the increased value and produce more income for farmers. In order to decrease food production, the AAA would pay farmers not to farm and the money would go to the landowners. The landowners were expected to share this money with the tenant farmers. While a small percentage of the landowners did share the income, the majority did not. This led to the formation of the STFU, whose existence serves historically as evidence that such a problem existed.
Slap!
Slap! is the fourth studio album by anarchist punk band Chumbawamba. It was a radical redefinition of the band's sound and attitude. The songs now inspired dancing more than moshing, and the lyrics were celebratory as opposed to victimist.

Slapping or smacking refers to striking a person with the open palm of the hand.
Etymology and definitions
The word was first recorded in 1632, probably as a form of Onomatopoeia. It shares its beginning consonants with several other English words related to violence, such as "slash", "slay", and "slam". The word is found in several English colloquialisms, such as, "slap fight", "slap-happy", "slapshot", "slapstick", "slap on the wrist" (as a mild punishment), "slap in the face" (as an insult or, alternatively, as a reproof against a lewd or insulting comment), and "slap on the back" (an expression of friendship or congratulations). A slap with the back of the hand is typically identified as a "backhand slap" and, on occasion, a "pimp slap." In jazz and other styles of music, the term refers to the action of pulling an instrument's strings back and allowing them to smack the instrument (see Slapping (music)).
"Bitch slap" is African-American slang that dates back to the 1990s. It is used to mean killing a woman, or to refer to a woman hitting a man, or a woman or gay man haranguing somebody, or a man hitting someone else in an effeminate way. Bitch slap has also been used in American prisons since the 1990s to refer to slapping instead of punching, with the implication that the perpetrator isn't "man enough" to deliver a closed-fist punch.

"Slap" is the fourth single from Ludacris' fifth album Release Therapy (2006).
Song information
"Slap" is an account of poverty on Bush America. Its narrator explains that he is feeling tired about working a lot and getting a low wage, and because of this, he has thoughts about beating (in the uncensored version, killing) his boss. His frustration is then explained to be bigger than that: his best friend was murdered just a day before. He also explains that he has thoughts about robbing a bank to have enough money to feed his newborn baby. Later, at the end of the song, his car is robbed and he expresses an ever bigger disappointment at the government. According to Allmusic reviewer Marisa Brown, Ludacris' character in the song has these thoughts because he is suffering from depression.
Music video
The music video was released early in 2007. It is based on Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, with Ludacris as Travis Bickle, with many references to the movie, including Ludacris kicking over his TV while watching President Bush and doing the iconic "You talkin' to me?" in an interlude. The video shows Ludacris as a taxi driver (wearing the same jacket as Robert De Niro) and the video ends with Ludacris storming a brothel and punching the bouncer and a prostitute's customer, in a similar fashion to Taxi Driver's ending, but without the use of guns. It is dedicated to Ludacris' father and best friend Wayne Bridges as it is said at the end of the video. In the scene where Ludacris is working out he is seen wearing a fan t-shirt of the Paratroopers Brigade of the Israel Defense Forces.
Bitch (magazine)
Bitch is an independent, quarterly magazine published in Portland, Oregon. Its tagline is "a feminist response to pop culture".Bitch is published by the multimedia non-profit organization Bitch Media. The magazine includes analysis of current political events, social and cultural trends, television shows, movies, books, music, advertising, and artwork from a feminist perspective. It has about 80,000 readers.
History
The first issue of Bitch was a ten-page feature. It was published in January 1996 in Oakland, California. The founding editors, Lisa Jervis and Andi Zeisler, along with founding art director Benjamin Shaykin, wanted to create a public forum in which to air thoughts and theories on women, gender, and feminist issues, interpreted through the lens of the media and popular culture. The first issue of Bitch was a zine, and a mere 300 copies were distributed from the trunk of a station wagon.
In 2001, a loan from San Francisco's Independent Press Association allowed Jervis and Zeisler to quit their day jobs and work on Bitch full-time and the magazine officially became a non-profit.
Bitch (performer)
Bitch (born Karen Mould, 1973), also known as Capital B, is a musician, actress, composer, and performance artist. Best known for her work in Bitch and Animal, John Cameron Mitchell's Shortbus, her work with Canadian folk musician Ferron, and her new project BEACH. Bitch sings and plays numerous instruments, including the ukulele, bass guitar, violin, and keytar—the artist has described her music as "electric violin poet rock".
Bitch and Animal 1996–2004
Bitch and Animal recorded their first album, What's That Smell? in Seattle, with Kate Wolf (Julie Wolf's twin sister) in the months leading up to the Amherst show. Their first meeting with Ani Difranco was the official release of their first album. Difranco then took the two on tour with her and signed them to her label. They recorded an album, Eternally Hard in Difranco's home studio in Buffalo, New York, finished it in Wayne Schrengohst's home studio in Manhattan, and Righteous Babe released it on September 11, 2001. Bitch and Animal went on to make two records for Righteous Babe Records, and toured extensively in the US, Europe and Canada.
Bitch (short story)
"Bitch" is a short story written by Roald Dahl and is part of his short story collection Switch Bitch. It was originally published in the July 1974 issue of Playboy. It is the second appearance of Dahl's character Uncle Oswald.
Plot summary
This story starts with Dahl introducing his Uncle Oswald's diary. He then goes on to the story, which begins in Paris on a Wednesday. At the start of the diary entry, Dahl's fictitious Uncle Oswald was trying a new honey sent by his friend when someone by the name of Henri Biotte called him and told him to go over to the latter's house. Uncle Oswald then introduces Henri Biotte in a flashback, whom he met 3 years ago in Provence where he went to spend a summer weekend with a lady. Biotte was a fellow guest in Provence like Uncle Oswald.
It is then discovered that Biotte was a Belgian olfactory chemist with an amazing sense of smell. He approached Uncle Oswald with the intention of asking for funding to continue his research and cultivation of the 8th and last smell that humans are supposedly able to sense. Biotte said that humans have a total of 8 types of olfactory nerves and cells, but only 7 of them are used actively, while the last one is dormant due to lack of use. He wanted to cultivate a smell to unlock the last nerve in the hope of using it to control the world. The last smell is the smell related to the sexual psychology of humans.
