Slant 6 Mind

Slant 6 Mind is the title of the fourteenth principal album release by American folk singer/guitarist Greg Brown, released in 1997.

At the Grammy Awards of 1998, Slant 6 Mind was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album.

Reception

Writing for Allmusic, music critic Jeff Burger wrote of the album "For the most part, this 14th album is business as usual for Greg Brown, which is very good news indeed... Suffice it to say that once you've heard Brown's voice, you won't forget it. And while Brown once claimed he could sing Hank Williams songs with even more passion than he delivers his own, this terrific album makes a more passionate performance hard to imagine."

Slant 6

Slant 6 was an all-female punk rock trio based in Washington, D.C.

The group consisted of Christina Billotte (electric guitar and vocals), Myra Power (electric bass guitar and vocals), and Marge Marshall (drum set and trumpet); it formed in July 1992 following the 1991 breakup of Autoclave, in which Billotte had played. The group took their name from an in-line six-cylinder engine produced in the 1960s and 1970s by the Chrysler Corporation.

Slant 6 recorded for the Dischord label and toured the United States several times, and England once. The group released two albums, 1994's Soda Pop-Rip Off and 1995's Inzombia The group broke up in November 1995 while on tour in England.

The band makes an appearance in the 1994 cult road movie Half-cocked.

Chrysler Slant-6 engine

The Slant-6 is a Chrysler automobile engine, known within Chrysler as the G-engine. It is an inline-6 piston engine designed such that the cylinders are inclined at a 30-degree angle from vertical.

Design

The Chrysler Slant-6 engine was a clean-sheet design, led by Willem Weertman, later Chrysler's chief engine designer. Its characteristic 30° inclination of cylinder block gives it a lower height overall engine package. This enabled vehicle stylists to lower hoodlines, and also made room for the water pump to be mounted with a lateral offset, significantly shortening the engine's overall length. The slanted cylinder block also provides space in the vehicle's engine bay for intake and exhaust manifolds with runners of longer and more nearly equal length compared to the rake- or log-style manifolds typical of other inline engines. The Slant-6 manifold configuration gives relatively even distribution of fuel mixture to all cylinders, and presents less flow restriction. This, in turn, provides for relatively good airflow through the engine despite the intake and exhaust ports being on the same side of the head rather than in a crossflow arrangement.
