Slade

Slade (originally known as The N'Betweens and now Slade II) are an English glam rock band from Wolverhampton/Walsall. They rose to prominence during the early 1970s with 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number ones. The British Hit Singles & Albums names them as the most successful British group of the 1970s based on sales of singles. They were the first act to achieve three singles enter at number one; all six of the band's chart-toppers were penned by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. Total UK sales stand at 6,520,171, and their best-selling single, "Merry Xmas Everybody", has sold in excess of one million copies.

Following an unsuccessful move to the United States in 1975, Slade's popularity waned but was unexpectedly revived in 1980 when they were last minute replacements for Ozzy Osbourne at the Reading Rock Festival. The band later acknowledged this to have been one of the highlights of their career. The original line up split in 1992 but the band reformed the following year as Slade II. The band has continued, with a number of line-up changes, to the present day. They have now shortened the group name back to Slade.

  • Slayed?

Slayed? is the third album by the British rock group Slade. It was released on 1 November 1972, and reached No. 1 on the UK charts. The album lasted on the UK charts for a total of 34 weeks, and was also their longest-charting album in the United States where it stayed on the charts for half a year (three weeks more than Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply) despite barely reaching the Top 75.

The album contains two of the group's biggest hits, "Gudbuy t'Jane" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", and is consistently said by rock critics to be their "...greatest studio album."

The album is included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

For the Record and Radio Mirror poll results of 1974, Slayed? peaked at #4 on the top ten list of best British albums.

The album was awarded a UK Silver Disc in early 1973.

During the band's Australian tour of early 1973, "Slayed?" went straight to number one, knocking "Slade Alive!" to #2 in the Australian chart. At this time, the band also had three singles in the top 50 chart.

    Slayed

"Slayed" is a single by the Big Beat artist Overseer from his album Wreckage.

The song was used by Ken Shamrock as his entrance theme on his last two fights in UFC. In addition, Mauricio Rua used this song as his entrance song for UFC 76, as well as Keith Jardine using it for UFC 89. As well as Rob singing in the song, it samples the song "We'll Bring the House Down" by Slade, hence the song being called "Slayed". It uses the lines "We'll bring the house down" in more of a high pitch sound than in the 1981 song. Many artists credit "Slayed" as a groundbreaking song in British DJ music, for its use of rap and ambient sound.

The vocals in the song are done by Zak Speakerfreak.

Look at last night, look at last night
    Everyone trying to know you
Never did try, ever did try
    Everyone trying to know you
You'll be right here today, gone tomorrow
Maybe they'll care today, but not tomorrow
Do you feel good? Do you feel good?
    Everyone trying to meet you
Can you tell why? Do you know why?
    Suddenly, how they treat you
You'll be right here today, gone tomorrow
Maybe they'll care today, but not tomorrow
La, lala lala lalalala, la lala la lalala
La, lala lala lalalala, la lala la lalala
Look at last night, look at last night
All of the things have changed you
Do you know why? Look how they try
Do you realise they made you?
You'll be right here today, gone tomorrow
Maybe they'll care today, but not tomorrow
Look at last night, look at last night
    Everyone trying to know you
Never did try, ever did try
    Everyone trying to know you
La, lala lala lalalala, la lala la lalala
La, lala lala lalalala, la lala la lalala
Look at last night, look at last night
    Oh, oh, oh
Look at last night, look at last night
    Oh
