Number sign is a name for the symbol #, which is used for a variety of purposes, including (mainly in Canada and the United States) the designation of a number (for example, "#1" stands for "number one"). On many social media platforms, it is used to declare a searchable metadata tag called a hashtag.
The term number sign is most commonly used when the symbol is used before a number. In the United States and Canada, it is sometimes known as the pound sign (particularly in the context of its use on telephone keypads), and has been traditionally used in the food industry as an abbreviation for pounds avoirdupois. Outside of North America the symbol is called hash and the corresponding telephone key is called the "hash key", and the term "pound sign" usually describes the British currency symbol "£". The symbol is defined in Unicode as U+0023 # NUMBER SIGN (HTML #
· as in ASCII).
The symbol may be confused with the musical symbol called sharp (♯). In both symbols, there are two pairs of parallel lines. The main difference is that the number sign has two horizontal strokes while the sharp sign has two slanted parallel lines which must rise from left to right, in order to avoid being obscured by the horizontal musical staff lines. Although the signs are strictly speaking different, one of the names for the telephone number sign key in French is dièse (sharp sign), and the name of the programming language C sharp is usually rendered with a hash symbol rather than the technically correct sharp sign.
A skyline is the horizon created by a city's overall structure, or by human intervention in a non-urban setting or in nature. City skylines serve as a kind of fingerprint as no two skylines are alike. For this reason, news and sports programs, television shows, and movies often display the skyline of a city to set a location. The term The Sky Line of New York City was first introduced in 1896, when it was the title of a color lithograph by Charles Graham for the color supplement of the New York Journal.
Paul D. Spreiregen, FAIA, has called a skyline "a physical representation [of a city's] facts of life ... a potential work of art ... its collective vista."

Skyline was a notable Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who was the best three-year-old of his year. He was a bay or brown stallion foaled in 1955 by the champion sire Star Kingdom (IRE) from Flight’s Daughter by Helios (GB) from Flight by Royal Step. He was the elder brother of another notable performer Sky High.
Following exceptional wins in the 1958 STC Golden Slipper Stakes, STC Hill Stakes and AJC Derby (in race record time of 2:28.8) his promising career was put on hold following a severe injury sustained in a stable accident.
Skyline eventually recovered from the injury but was never the same horse failing to register another win.
He was retired to stud with the record of 5 wins from 32 starts, and from very limited opportunities and only a few foals, he sired, among others, Sky Sailor, winner of 11 races.
Skyline was a newgrass group active in the 1970s and '80s headed by Tony Trischka. The band consisted of Tony, Danny Weiss on guitar and vocals, Dede Wyland on guitar and vocals, Larry Cohen on bass, and Barry Mitterhoff on mandolin. In the last year of their career Dede Wyland left the band and was replaced by Rachel Kalem. They were a major proponent of the "newgrass" sound, known for jazz-infused riffs and extensive use of harmony in their singing. Their first album, Skyline Drive, was released in 1977. The band released several more albums over the next few years, culminating with their final release, Fire of Grace in 1989. In 1999, they released a retrospective album called Ticket Back.
Members of the band are still playing together in various configurations. Danny, Larry and Barry performed as Silk City, a band named after an old nickname for Paterson, New Jersey. The band was active around 2000-2004, before Barry left to join Hot Tuna.
