Skycity Darwin

Skycity Darwin is a casino in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. It is the only casino in Darwin.

History

The casino was originally granted a licence in 1979 and opened at its current premises in 1983 as the Mindil Beach Casino. In 1984, the territorial government forcibly acquired it, along with the Alice Springs Casino, from Federal Hotels for $50 million. A joint venture between Greate Bay Casino Corp. (owner of the Sands Atlantic City) and Aspinall Holdings (a British casino operator) was set up to operate the two casinos. The Mindil Beach Casino was renamed as the Diamond Beach Hotel and Casino. Aspinall bought out Greate Bay's interest for US$1 million in 1986, and then acquired the territorial government's 17 percent interest for $5 million in 1987.

In 1995, MGM Grand acquired the property for US$75 million, including US$13 million of assumed debt. It was renamed as the MGM Grand Darwin. The Skycity Entertainment Group purchased the hotel in 2004 for $195 million and took ownership on 23 July 2004.

Skycity (Mandaluyong)

Skycity is an 80-story unfinished skyscraper in Mandaluyong, Philippines. It is a joint venture between real estate developer E. Ganzon Inc. (EGI) and Sam Buena Realty Corporation. Its estimated height is 335 metres (1,099 ft). If constructed, it will become the tallest building in the country. Skycity is planned as a mixed-used skyscraper with a hotel, office space and residential space.

Construction was suspended due to a lawsuit filed by a homeowners' association from nearby upscale Greenhills East Village. As of September 14, 2005, the Philippine Court of Appeals promulgated a resolution allowing the developers to resume construction of the skyscraper. As of 2008, it was noted that no construction work had proceeded on the excavation area, which is the only completed phase of the project. In 2010, the second division of the Philippine Supreme Court rejected the challenges of the Greenhills East Association, and the developer said that the project (now described as a 77-story building with 8 basements) would proceed.

SkyCity

SkyCity, originally known as the Eye of the Needle, is a revolving restaurant situated atop the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. It features a 14-foot-deep (4.3 m) carousel (or ring-shaped) dining floor on which sit patrons' tables, chairs, and dining booths. The floor revolves on a track and wheel system, which weighs roughly 125 tons, at a rate of one revolution every 47 minutes.

The restaurant was designed by John Graham & Company, patterned after the La Ronde Restaurant they had built atop the Ala Moana Center in 1963. Due to the balance and precision of its design, the floor's rotation is accomplished using just a single 1½-horsepower motor.

SkyCity serves Pacific Northwest cuisine and features local seafood, steak, chicken and vegetarian menu items. The restaurant is considered fine dining, and has a casual dress code. The seating is arranged to provide every table with an unobstructed view of the Seattle metropolitan area.
