A skid mark is the visible mark left by any solid which moves against another, and is an important aspect of trace evidence analysis in forensic science and forensic engineering. Skid marks caused by tires on roads occur when a vehicle wheel stops rolling and slides or spins on the surface of the road. Skid marks can be analyzed to find the maximum and minimum vehicle speed prior to an impact or incident. Skidding can also occur on black ice or diesel deposits on the road and may not leave a mark at all.
Skid marks are divided into "acceleration marks" created on acceleration, if the engine provides more power than the tire can transmit; "braking marks," if the brakes "lock up" and cause the tire to slide; or "yaw marks", if the tire slides sideways. Each has a characteristic appearance, and an experienced accident reconstructor or forensic engineer can often determine what the vehicle was doing by examining the marks left by the tire.
In car accidents, skid marks are caused by rubber being deposited on the road, much like that of an eraser leaving pieces of rubber on a paper. Skid marks can also come about when a car suddenly accelerates on a slippery surface, or takes a hard corner. Skid marks are not made by temporary melting of the road surface, as can be shown by skid marks made on concrete by a bicycle, with children often having competitions about who can create the longest skid mark. The rubber of car tires heats up with sliding friction, degrades and disintegrates at the road-tire interface, and is deposited on the road surface.
Skid Marks is a 2007 independent comedy film about two rival ambulance companies and their attempts to maintain themselves in their city, directed by Karl Kozak and written by Kozak, Don J. Rearden and Kraig Wenman. The film had its theatrical premiere on October 5, 2007, in San Diego, and in 2008, screened at the Dances With Films Festival in Los Angeles.
Budget cuts force two rival ambulance companies and their misfit medics to go head-to-head to save their patients, their jobs and their beer money, all in the name of emergency medicine.
Filming took place over a six-week period during June and July 2006 at locations in San Diego, California, in areas including Kearny Mesa, Point Loma, Hillcrest, uptown San Diego and several beach areas.
Local H is an American grunge duo originally formed by guitarist and vocalist Scott Lucas, bassist Matthew "Matt" Garcia, drummer Joe Daniels, and lead guitarist John Sparkman in Zion, Illinois in 1987. The members all met in high school in 1987 and founded Local H three years later.
After Sparkman's departure in 1991 and Garcia's departure in 1993, Local H signed a record contract with Island Records in 1994, where they would go on to release three albums. They became best known for their radio hit "Bound for the Floor", a single from the 1996 album As Good as Dead which peaked at No. 5 on the US Alternative Billboard Chart. The album As Good As Dead was also certified gold. Daniels was replaced by Brian St. Clair in 1999, and the group has since issued four further albums. Brian St. Clair's last show with Local H was in 2013. In November 2013 Ryan Harding was announced as the new drummer.
According to the band's Twitter account, its name comes from combining two R.E.M. songs: "Oddfellows Local 151" and "Swan Swan H".
Three, four half-life, welcome the worst
Born to your station and your station's a curse
Daddy says, "Wait and see"
Ain't seen the sun since 1973
Half-life, fake your claim
Falling asleep and waking up is the same
Half alive and half dead too
Work is for suckers and the sucker is you
You know the lies they tell are told until they're true
You know they hardly ever, you know they hardly ever
(Yeah, I'm falling fast, I'm not gonna last)
Ya want it, they got it, it's your circumstance
You know the hardly ever give a leaper a chance
Half-life, half-life, half-life or nothing at all
Half-life and all fucked up
You're born with nothing better make it enough
Pat in the back kick in the teeth
Alcohol will be your only relief
You know the lies they tell are told until they're true
You know they hardly ever, you know they hardly ever
(Yeah, I'm falling fast, I'm not gonna last)
Ya want it, they got it, it's your circumstance
You know the hardly ever give a leaper a chance
Half-life, half-life, half-life or nothing at all
You know the lies they tell are told until they're true
You know they hardly ever, you know they hardly ever
(Yeah, I'm falling fast, I'm not gonna last)
Ya want it, they got it, it's your circumstance
You know the hardly ever give a leaper a chance
Half-life, half-life, half-life or nothing at all
You know the lies they tell are told until they're true
You know they hardly ever, you know they hardly ever
(Yeah, I'm falling fast, I'm not gonna last)
Ya want it, they got it, it's your circumstance
You know the hardly ever give a leaper a chance
Half-life, half-life, half-life or nothing at all
