Numeral (linguistics)

In linguistics, a numeral is a member of a word class (or sometimes even a part of speech) designating numbers, such as the English word 'two' and the compound 'seventy-seven'.

Identifying numerals

Numerals may be attributive, as in two dogs, or pronominal, as in I saw two (of them).

Many words of different parts of speech indicate number or quantity. Quantifiers do not enumerate, or designate a specific number, but give another, often less specific, indication of amount. Examples are words such as every, most, least, some, etc. There are also number words which enumerate but are not a distinct part of speech, such as 'dozen', which is a noun, 'first', which is an adjective, or 'twice', which is an adverb. Numerals enumerate, but in addition have distinct grammatical behavior: when a numeral modifies a noun, it may replace the article: the/some dogs played in the park → twelve dogs played in the park. (Note that *dozen dogs played in the park is not grammatical, so 'dozen' is not a numeral.)

Sixteen (album)

Sixteen is a 1983 album by American singer Stacy Lattisaw. Released on October 11, 1983 by Cotillion Records when Lattisaw was 16 years old. The single, "Miracles", peaked at number thirteen on the U.S. R&B chart in 1983.

Plot

Sixteen is a story about lost innocence and teenage heartache in urban India In the times of the Internet, Page 3 in newspapers and more than 300 TV channels, innocence of the youth is the first victim of overexposure.

Anu is a carefree and ambitious girl who wants to be a model. Nidhi is an innocent virgin and is usually taunted by her peers for being so. Tanisha is mature for her age and likes handsome guys with a good sense of humour and intelligence. She lives with her aunt since her parents died in an accident. Ashwin belongs to a middle-class family with a strict father who wants him to be an IAS Officer.

Nidhi is going out with Kartik. Kartik wants to take things further but Nidhi wants to wait for the 'right time and the right place'. Tanisha and Ashwin are best friends, but Ashwin has a crush on Tanisha, while she sees him only as a friend. Anu changes her boyfriends all the time. A handsome and intelligent writer Vikram Kapoor comes to live as a tenant at Tanisha's place, and he immediately develops feelings for her due to events in his past.

(The original group MADHOUSE, is a band from Baltimore, Maryland that consisted of several members that went on to be a part of Bootsy's Rubber Band. They recorded their first album as kids in 1972 titled "Serve Em", which was released on a label called, Today. Prince project Madhouse, would follow years later using the same name.

"Madhouse" is a song by the American thrash metal band Anthrax. It was released in 1985 on Megaforce/Island Records.

Background

Madhouse was released as the only single and third track from the group's second album, Spreading the Disease. The song is written in an up-tempo time signature, with heavy distorted guitar riffs.

It has become a staple of live concerts, and has also appeared on Anthrax's "best of" album, Anthrology: No Hit Wonders (1985-1991). In 2009, the track was named the 46th best hard rock song of all time by VH1.

Music video

A music video was produced, which features the band performing in an insane asylum with several mental patients moving along to the tune. However, the video did not receive much airplay because it was banned from MTV, who believed the content to be degrading to the mentally ill.

The Cal Leandros series is an ongoing series of The New York Times Best Selling novels by American author Rob Thurman about the fictional character of Caliban "Cal" Leandros. The first novel, Nightlife, was published on March 7, 2006 through Roc Fantasy.

Synopsis

The series follows Cal, a man that is half-monster and half-human. His mother was impregnated by an Auphe, a bloodthirsty creature also referred to as a "Grendel". The series begins with Cal and his brother Niko living in New York City, struggling to keep Cal's heritage a secret as they battle to survive those that would see them dead. Later novels deal more heavily with Cal's attempts to balance the dark nature of his father's race with his impulse to protect and defend others against the supernatural.

Major Characters

Caliban is the result of his mother mating with an otherworldly creature, a Grendel (Auphe). He is, as Thurman describes him, "half-human, half-monster, and all attitude." Cal inherited his Greek-Romani mother's raven hair, but has the pale skin of his father. Technically, Cal begins the books as 17 years old, but he was once kidnapped by the Auphe and spent two years in their home dimension called Tumulus, making him 19, since time in that placed follows different laws than on Earth.
