Sippy cup

The sippy cup is a spill-proof drinking cup designed for toddlers. It works by way of surface tension that prevents liquid from being spilled even when the cup is upended. The critical element is the sippy top being firmly in place on top of the cup, preventing spills.

The modern Sipster spill-proof sippy cup was invented by Richard Belanger, who licensed the design to Playtex.

"Sippy Cup" is a song by American recording artist Melanie Martinez as the third single from her debut album, Cry Baby. A music video was released July 31, 2015.

Background and composition

In the interview with SPIN, Melanie described Sippy Cup as the second part to Dollhouse song. "The song is basically the bridge between the Dollhouse EP and the Cry Baby album. This song is about what actually “goes down in the kitchen,” a deeper look into Crybaby’s family life. This is my favorite video I’ve done so far. Directing this music video made me very excited to direct videos for every single song on the album. I can't wait to continue telling the story of the album in every way possible."

Melanie opens Cry Baby’s walls a little further in “Sippy Cup.” We get to see just how serious her parents’ problems are. No matter how much her mother tries to hide her alcoholism, Cry Baby knows that she is hiding liquor in her sippy cup. When the drunk mother sees her husband with another woman, she murders both of them only to have Cry Baby walk in on the crime scene. To cover up the murder, her mother drugged her so she would forget the gruesome memory.

The cup is a unit of measurement for volume, used in cooking to measure liquids (fluid measurement) and bulk foods such as granulated sugar (dry measurement). It is principally used in the United States and Liberia where it is a legally defined unit of measurement. Actual cups used in a household in any country may differ from the cup size used for recipes; standard measuring cups, often calibrated in fluid measure and weights of usual dry ingredients as well as in cups, are available.
