Respect (The Bill)

"Respect" is the two-part series finale of the United Kingdom's longest running police procedural television drama series, The Bill. The episodes were written by David Harsent and directed by Reza Moradi, and aired on ITV1 on 24 and 31 August 2010. The series finale, and the final scene, were specially written to include all 17 current cast members.

Background

The Bill was a long-running police drama set in and around the fictional Sun Hill police station in south London. The show's focus was on the work and lives of the officers, led by Superintendent Jack Meadows (Simon Rouse) and Inspector Dale "Smithy" Smith (Alex Walkinshaw). Much of the officers' time is spent on the fictional Jasmine Allen estate, the setting for much of "Respect".

Plot

Respect: Part I

Smithy is called to the Jasmine Allen Estate where he discovers a dying teenager, identified as Liam Martin, who has been stabbed by gang members. Investigations into his murder lead the team to Jasmine Harris (Faye Daveney), a previous informant of DC Mickey Webb (Chris Simmons). Investigations reveal that she lured Liam to where he was killed and she is arrested. In interview, Jasmine leads officers to Carlos Miller (Lewis Chase), who is arrested and claims that he killed Liam in self-defence. Jasmine is released on bail, against the advice of DC Webb, who believes that she is in danger from other gang members. Upon her return to the estate, a gang of boys forces Jasmine into a warehouse, where she is beaten and gang raped. A gunshot is heard, and the episode concludes with police arriving at the scene.

Respect (Robyn Hitchcock album)

Respect is the eleventh album by Robyn Hitchcock and his seventh with backing band, The Egyptians, released on A&M in 1993.

Background

"Respect" was the group's fourth and final studio album under contract to A&M, and Hitchcock's last record with the Egyptians. The album contains ten Hitchcock originals.

The album has a Hitchcock oil painting on its front cover entitled "Red Lemon Days", which was the original title for the album. The release includes a Hitchcock written short story, "Moose Mark and the Prince of Cones", in its inlay.

The album was written and recorded in the period following the death of Hitchcock's father, and several songs reflect this explicitly, particularly the opening track.

Recording

The album was recorded on a mobile recording unit at Hitchcock's then home in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. Hitchcock explained the decision by saying, "I've never really cared much for going in and recording in the studio, so it seemed like the easiest solution was to have the studio come to record with us." The band rehearsed at the house over the summer and then when it came time to record, the group and their respective wives, family and friends all stayed at the house while production took place. Most of the recording was done in the living room, where the furniture had been removed and carpets pulled up. The kitchen was chosen for the vocals because of its good acoustics.

Respect (Diana King album)

Respect is the third album by singer-songwriter, Diana King. Includes the lead single, "Summer Breezin'." Highlights include "Down Lo", "She Had A..." and "Wallflower."

Circle Series

The Circle Series, formerly known as the Circle Trilogy until the novel Green was released in September 2009, is a set of spiritually inspired novels by Ted Dekker, written mostly in 2004, about a man named Thomas Hunter who, after a head injury, wakes up in an alternate reality every time he goes to sleep. The stakes are raised when he realizes that a deadly virus is about to be unleashed on our world, and that the other earth is also being threatened with catastrophe. The pace quickens as links and parallels between the two worlds are revealed, and the clock begins to run down for both worlds.

The Circle Series takes place in the same universe as several other Dekker novels, and makes several references to them. These other novels include the Paradise Novels, the Lost Books, Skin, House, and Immanuel's Veins.

Subtitle changing for Green

Originally, Green was called "The Beginning and the End," and was meant to be both the first and the last book of the series, causing an infinite loop in the timeline. Many fans were confused and spoke out about this, so Dekker wrote a new ending to Green called "The Last Stand" which brought a level of closure to the series. It can be found in the 4-in-1 collector's edition, The Circle.

Sin After Sin

Sin After Sin is the third studio album by English heavy metal group Judas Priest, released in 1977. It was remastered in 2001 with two bonus tracks added.

The album represented several major milestones in the group's career; the band made their major label debut and were able to work with a famous musical artist as their producer, former Deep Purple member Roger Glover. The band also fully embraced an aggressive metal sound with this release, significantly toning down the arena rock and blues rock influences shown in their past work, and the group achieved widespread popularity on the radio stations for their first time, oddly enough with their hard-edged version of Joan Baez's song "Diamonds & Rust".

Background

Judas Priest formed in 1969 in industrial West Bromwich, Birmingham. By the time they released their first album Rocka Rolla in 1974, there had been so many lineup changes that no original member remained. Finances were tight: the record label Gull provided a recording budget of £2000 for each of the band's first two albums. During the recording of their second album Sad Wings of Destiny (1976), the band members restricted themselves to one meal a day, and several took on part-time work: Tipton as a gardener, Downing in a factory, and Hill driving a delivery van.

Sinner (Joan Jett album)

Sinner is the eleventh studio album by the American hard rock band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, released June 13, 2006, by Blackheart Records Group. While most of the contents previously appeared on the Japan-only release Naked (2004), some in different mixes, it is her first record of new material released in the United States since Pure and Simple in 1994. Singles released include "A.C.D.C." (originally by Sweet) and "Riddles" (Jett's first-ever political song), which is a new version of "Right in the Middle" from Naked with different lyrics.

An edited "clean" version was also released. The CD also includes enhanced content, consisting of a lyrics sheet (in PDF format) and a video of the recording of "A.C.D.C.".
