"Sing It" is a song by American recording artist Rebecca Black. It was released on the iTunes Store under the label RB Records, as Black's fourth single on May 8, 2012.[1] "Sing It" received mixed reviews from music critics, surprising for the use not abusive of Auto-Tune on vocals as from Black's previous single. Like its predecessor, the song failed to chart on international music markets. The accompanying music video was premiered the day before.[2]

On May 2, 2012, Black revealed that going to release a new single titled "Sing It".[2] Black unveiled the single artwork through her official website.[3] A preview of 30 seconds was posted at Youtube. A studio version leaked via Radio Disney a few days before official premiere. On May 08, 2012, the accompanying music video was uploaded on Black's YouTube channel, with release of the single digitally at iTunes Store.[1]

About the new song, Black said:

"It's called 'Sing It' and it's very different from past songs I've released. It has a really fun feel to it and is just about letting loose and letting the music take over”.[4]

Critical reception [link]

"Sing It" received mixed to generally negative reviews from music critics. Mark Kermode said, "It's like someone pouring petrol over their heads and setting fire to themselves." Michael Medved calling it, "... a full-out, flamboyant music disaster, a song of nearly unparalleled arrogance and vapidity," adding that...." Tom Charity, among many others, has called Sing It the worst song of 2012. Robbie Daw, from Idolator, said: "... the sunny guitar-pop jam really doesn't seem to employ much Auto Tune at all. Well, maybe only about 45% of her vocals are worked over here with studio wizardry".[5]

The music video was premiered on May 7, 2012 on E! News.[2] It was filmed in Malibu, California and features Black enjoying a summer day on the beach. The teen star is at some point joined by a few of her friends when she goes for a bike ride, and chills out at a party at night.[6]

Incidentally, the video was released the day after former mentor Patrice Wilson released his video for "Happy (The Official Sequel to Friday)" the previous day.[7]

Reception [link]

Robbie Daw from Idolator said: "... the shoestring-budget “Sing It” video has premiered, and we can report that it’s just what you’d expect from a wholesome kid who’s still two years off from getting their driver’s license — cute sun dresses, flowers in the hair, twirling on the beach and hanging with pals by a campfire".[8] Amy Sciarretto from PopCrush said: "Black carries herself much more confidently now. She looks as though she has grown up and is having fun. All the Internet hate and the backlash didn’t break her spirit. Her music is a bit more mature, too. No, it’s not stands-the-test-of-time pop music, nor will it ever be. But it’s not going to make your ears bleed, either".[9]

Promotion [link]

As part of the promotion of her new single, Black was interviewed both on TV and online. Black interviewed on E!.[10] She also interviewed at Clevver TV.[11], at KTLA[12] and on FOX 11LA.[13]

Disney Sing It

Disney Sing It is a karaoke video game and sequel to High School Musical: Sing It!. It was released on October 28, 2008 across multiple platforms. The game's product description refers to additional downloadable song packs being available. However, as of 28 April 2009, Disney Interactive Support has replied (to a query): "Thank you for contacting us.In some circumstances we need to make some business decisions and drop certain projects that might have been planned or even announced previously. This case falls in one of those situations and currently we don't have any plans on adding any downloadable contents for either Disney Sing It title."

The game has received mixed reviews, with both 1UP.com and IGN praising its accessibility towards kids but finding serious fault with the gameplay, with Official Xbox Magazine ultimately calling it a "gateway game" at best.
