Simon Evans

Simon Evans (born 9 May 1965), is an English comedian, born in Luton and now living in Hove.

Early life

Evans attended Verulam School in St Albans and then studied law at Southampton University, graduating in 1986.

Stand-up comedy

Evans is an established act on the UK comedy circuit who has also appeared on television – on Live at the Apollo (Jan 2013) and on Stand Up for the Week (Autumn 2013, Channel Four). According to leading comedy review site Chortle 'his sharp, acidic barbs remain a rich delight'. TV appearances in 2010 include Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow in Sunderland (BBC One) and Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live (BBC Three). In 2010–11 he toured his show 'Fringe Magnet' across the UK and in 2012–13 toured his show Friendly Fire. His most recent show, Leashed, was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2013.

In early 2010, Simon Evans supported Lee Mack on his UK tour – Going Out. He has performed one man shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe since 2000 and has performed at the New Zealand Comedy Festival 2002, Cape Town Comedy Festival 2001 as well as in Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Winnipeg and Dubai. In July 2004 he performed at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, and the following spring at the Aspen Comedy Festival in Colorado. In July 2010 he appeared alongside Emo Philips at Latitude Festival in Suffolk.

Simon Evans (writer)

Simon Evans (10 August 1895 – 9 August 1940), a postman with the GPO (now Royal Mail) for most of his short life, also developed a reputation in the 1930s as a writer and broadcaster on country life, particularly in and around rural South Shropshire. He had five books published by Heath Cranton Ltd within a seven-year span (1931–38) before his death in 1940. In recent years a collection of his writings has been published, and other memorials created, including plaques in Cleobury Mortimer, where he lived for 14 years, and a 28-km walk based on his postal round stretching from Cleobury Mortimer deep into the South Shropshire countryside.

Early life

Simon Evans was born at Tynyfedu, Wales, not far from Lake Vyrnwy, a reservoir supplying water to Liverpool. His father, Ellis Evans, was a farmer, but the family farm was too poor to support a growing number of sons, so Ellis and his family left Wales for Birkenhead on Merseyside around 1907. Simon, tall for his age, and speaking with a strong Welsh accent, did not have an easy time at school, but did owe his love of literature to an influential teacher. When he left school, he worked for the General Post Office as a messenger boy and postman.

Simon Evans (racing driver)

Simon Evans (born 12 November 1990) is a racing driver from New Zealand, who competes in the New Zealand V8SuperTourer Series for Team 4, he is the brother of GP2 Racer Mitch Evans.

Career

V8 SuperTourers

In 2012 the all new V8SuperTourer category was launched and Evans secured an Endurance Drive with Kayne Scott for Farmer Racing Services. The ending up getting a podium at the Pukekohe 500. In 2013 Evans took over Scott and raced the full 7 Round season, and ended up finishing 16th overall with only a single podium over the season. Then in 2014 Evans claimed 7 Podium finishes and finished runner up behind Four Time Bathurst 1000 winner Greg Murphy.
