Simon Cook (Australian cricketer)

Simon Hewitt Cook (born 29 January 1972 in Hastings, Victoria) is an Australian cricketer.

After graduating from the Australian Cricket Academy, he debuted for Victoria early in 1993. He showed promise in the 1993/94 season, taking 30 wickets at 29.5.

He moved to New South Wales in the 1995/96 season. He was a surprise selection in two Tests against New Zealand late in 1997, despite not being considered even up to first-class standard. On his debut, he took five wickets in the second innings against New Zealand in Perth.

Soon after his two Tests, which yielded a respectable average of 20 as a replacement for Glenn McGrath, Cook disappeared off the scene fairly quickly due to injuries. He did play 4 more Sheffield Shield games in that 1997/98 season, including 2 four-wicket hauls, but in 1998/99 played just two games for just one wicket. He missed the entire 1999/2000 first-class season, and his next match in December 2000 turned out to be his last in the Pura Cup/Sheffield Shield.

Simon Cook (English cricketer)

Simon James Cook (born 15 January 1977 in Oxford) was an English cricketer who is the head coach of the Hong Kong cricket team. He was a right-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Middlesex and Kent at first class level between 1999 and 2012. Cook batted right handed.

His brother, Adam, has played Minor counties and List A cricket for Oxfordshire.

Cricket career

Cook initially played in 1996 for Cumnor in Oxfordshire before a year later being signed by Middlesex along with Andrew Strauss. After suffering from shin splints and stress fractures he gradually established himself as a front-line bowler in the County Championship. In 2004 he scored 39 wickets in the National League, equalling the record of Adam Hollioake.

After seven years at Middlesex, Cook signed a contract with Kent at the end of 2004. He became a regular first teamer, mostly taking the new ball. He won the 2007 Twenty20 Cup and the 2009 County Championship Division Two title with the county. He retired from county cricket at the end of the 2012 county season. He had completed his coaching training to the highest level whilst still a player and took a role coaching France before the 2013 European T20 Championship. He then took a role as head coach of the Hong Kong Cricket Club before becoming the bowling coach of the Hong Kong national cricket team in 2013. In 2015 he was appointed the head coach of the Hong Kong national side.
