Silencer (DNA)

In genetics, a silencer is a DNA sequence capable of binding transcription regulation factors, called repressors. DNA contains genes and provides the template to produce messenger RNA (mRNA). That mRNA is then translated into proteins that activate or inactivate gene expression in cells. When a repressor protein binds to the silencer region of DNA, RNA polymerase—the enzyme that transcribes DNA into RNA—is prevented from binding to the promoter region. With the transcription of DNA into RNA blocked, the translation of RNA into proteins is impossible. Thus, silencers prevent genes from being expressed as proteins.

RNA polymerase, a DNA-dependent enzyme, transcribes the DNA sequences, called nucleotides, in the 3' to 5' direction while the complementary RNA is synthesized in the 5' to 3' direction. RNA is similar to DNA, except that RNA contains uracil, instead of thymine, which forms a base pair with adenine. An important region for the activity of gene repression and expression found in RNA is the 3' untranslated region. This is a region on the 3' terminus of RNA that will not be translated to protein but includes many regulatory regions.

List of Crusader characters

This is a list of characters appearing in the Origin Systems Crusader games. Interaction between the player and these characters usually takes place through a FMV cutscene playing, therefore each character's description is also accompanied by the name of the actor/actress portraying him/her.

The Captain

The Captain is a Silencer, a fictional type of soldier in the Crusader games, and the silent player-controlled protagonist of the series, introduced in the introduction movie of Crusader - No Remorse. No name is ever given and it is unknown if the character is male or female, with even the Vetron in the intro movie identifying him as "???" despite successfully discerning the names of his squadmates. The Captain receives two nicknames in the game, "Tin Man" and "Red". The Captain was once a member of the WEC Silencer Corps before defecting. His origins are unknown. According to the game manual, Silencers are picked out in their adolescent years and recruited for life. They undergo rigorous training and are trained to be the ultimate soldier. He is distinguished by his red armor. During the course of events of Crusader - No Remorse, the player finds out that the Captain, and other Silencers, are possibly the result of genetic engineering and cloning. The Captain is shown joining the Resistance in the year 2196, after an attack on his team by a WEC Vetron for failing to carry out orders. The Captain joins Echo Base and performs several missions including sabotage, assassination, espionage and intelligence. At the end of the game, the Captain is tasked to destroy the WEC's new orbital space station, the Vigilance Platform.

DNA² (Japanese: D・N・A² ～何処かで失くしたあいつのアイツ～, Hepburn: Dī En Ei Tsū: Dokoka de Nakushita Aitsu no Aitsu) is a science fiction manga series written and illustrated by Masakazu Katsura. It was serialized across Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine between 1993 and 1994, spanning a total of five tankōbon volumes.

DNA² was adapted into a 12-episode anime television series which ran on Nippon Television from October 7, 1994 to December 23, 1994. This was followed by a three-episode anime original video animation (OVA) in 1995. Produced by Madhouse and Studio Deen, the anime series was directed by Jun'ichi Sakata, whereas the character designer and animation director for the series was Kumiko Takahashi. DNA² has been broadcast in Japan by Animax, which has also aired the series across its respective networks worldwide, including its English-language networks in Southeast Asia and South Asia. All 15 episodes were licensed in North America by Central Park Media until their closing in 2009. The five volumes and box set are out-of-print. Discotek Media has since re-licensed the series for a DVD release in 2014.

The company

DNA2.0 was founded in 2003, in Menlo Park, California. The company is privately held and continues to have all research, development and production in Menlo Park, California. It began and continues as a gene synthesis and protein engineering provider to academia, government and the pharmaceutical, chemical, agricultural and biotechnology industries. Gene Synthesis rapidly replaced molecular cloning for many academic and corporate labs, as "foundries for the biotechnology age" allowing made-to-order genes for biological research. DNA2.0 was featured on the PBS show Nova ScienceNow to show how genes are created synthetically in a lab. In 2008, the company supplied some of the DNA stretches used to create a synthetic bacterial genome.Dan Rather Reports included DNA2.0 in their episode on Synthetic Biology and how it is solving "some of the most important problems facing the world." In 2009, The Scientist named the codon design algorithms (now tradmarked as GeneGPS) developed by DNA2.0 as one of the Top 10 Innovations of the year for Life Sciences. DNA2.0 developed the Electra Vector System, a universal cloning system that utilizes the type IIS restriction enzyme SapI and T4 DNA ligase in a single-tube reaction. DNA2.0 has made some molecular components, such as synthetic fluorescent proteins, available in open-access collections of DNA parts (BioBricks Foundation). DNA2.0 is a founding member of the International Gene Synthesis Consortium (IGSC) to promote biosecurity in the gene-synthesis industry. There are over 1,100 published scientific articles using DNA2.0 products and/or services, of which 43 include company employees as an author(s).

Go! Pop! Bang!

Go! Pop! Bang! is the debut studio album by American rapper Rye Rye. It was released on N.E.E.T. Recordings, an imprint of Interscope Records. The album was originally scheduled for release in 2009, but it has since been delayed several times, due to a pregnancy and label issues. It was eventually released on May 15, 2012, with a deluxe version available on iTunes. The album features several artists including M.I.A., Akon, Tyga, Robyn, and Porcelain Black. Production credits are given to M.I.A., The Neptunes, Mr. Bangladesh, and RedOne. The variety of styles brought from each producer was praised by critics.

On the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, the album's three singles charted in the top twenty, with "Never Will Be Mine" and "Boom Boom" being the only ones to break the top ten. As a whole, the album charted at six on Top Heatseekers, falling just below the requirements for the Billboard 200. The album also charted on the Top Rap Albums and Top Electronic Albums charts.
