Monty is an American comic strip created, written and illustrated by cartoonist Jim Meddick.

Robotman

The comic strip began as Robotman in 1985. It originally depicted the exploits of a small robot from outer space visiting Earth, living with the ordinary Milde family. In the 1990s, Robotman left the Milde family and began living with a geeky inventor named Monty.

Robotman's origin was later retconned to having been designed and built by Monty and given false memories of being an alien.

Robotman's evolution

Robotman was a toy character created by United Feature Syndicate as an attempt at cross-marketing toys, videos, and other merchandise. The syndicate desired to have a comic strip featuring the character; they had asked Bill Watterson to incorporate the character into Calvin and Hobbes, but Watterson refused. The job was then passed on to Jim Meddick, who created the family setting and the other characters. As the strip progressed the design of Robotman changed considerably as Meddick's style evolved.

Monty Are I

Monty Are I (formerly known as Monty's Fan Club and Monty) is an American rock band from Cranston, Rhode Island. Monty Are I is titled after the band instructor, Arthur Montanaro. The "Are I" portion of the name is a pun on "RI", Rhode Island's postal abbreviation.

History and achievements

Monty Are I won Takeover Records' "Sign My Band" contest on MySpace in 2005. They also won the WBRU "Rock Hunt" in 2002 and the Ernie Ball sponsored "Battle of the Bands" in 2003. The group signed to Stolen Transmission, and were upstreamed to Island Records.

Monty has many national tours under their belt, including five years on Vans Warped Tour, and tours with Just Surrender, Secondhand Serenade, Amber Pacific, Anberlin, Powerspace, Rx Bandits, My Chemical Romance, Story of the Year, Sum41, Taking Back Sunday, Yellowcard, Hawthorne Heights and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

Monty Are I's song "In This Legacy" is featured in the Xbox/PS2 games: ATV Offroad Fury 4 and Tony Hawk's Project 8.

Their first album exclusively under Island/DefJam is titled Break Through The Silence and was released on September 22, 2009. "One in a Million" was the first single, released on August 25, 2009.

Monty (TV series)

Monty is an American sitcom that aired on the FOX network in 1994. The series starred Henry Winkler as Monty Richardson, a loud, obnoxious conservative TV commentator. Richardson had also written a best-selling book titled I'm Right. I'm Right. I'm Right. Shut Up. The series also starred Tom McGowan as his executive producer and David Schwimmer as his left-leaning son. Monty hoped to capitalize on the same family dynamic that made the television show All in the Family a success in the 1970s. However, the show was canceled after five episodes.

"Signs" is the first single from Intimacy Remixed, the remix album to Bloc Party's third album Intimacy. The song's remix by Armand Van Helden was released on 27 April 2009 in the United Kingdom only on digital download and 12" vinyl. It is the first single to be released from a Bloc Party remix album as no songs were released from the previous effort Silent Alarm Remixed.

Musical style

Paul Cook of godisinthetvzine.co.uk stated that the remixed version of "Signs" does "away with the xylophone intro and delicate layering of vocals and instrumentals" of the original version by "wedging in a thick, house bassline. Cook also commented that this change "hasn't done this track any favours" and that the song "is far from inventive or experimental in its production". Simon Taylor of angryape.com offered a differing opinion, stating that "Helden rips up the dancefloor with his rework - all grinding synths, bouncy basslines and booming beats" to create a remix that "will appeal to clubbers and indie fans in equal measure", evoking the success of one Bloc Party's earlier singles, "Banquet".

Signs (film)

Signs is a 2002 American science fiction thriller-horror film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Executive producers for the film comprised Shyamalan, Frank Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy and Sam Mercer. A joint collective effort to commit to the film's production was made by Blinding Edge Pictures and The Kennedy/Marshall Company. It was commercially distributed by Touchstone Pictures theatrically, and by Touchstone Home Entertainment in home media format.

The story focuses on a former Episcopal priest named Graham Hess, played by Mel Gibson, who discovers a series of crop circles in his cornfield. Hess slowly becomes convinced that the phenomena are a result of extraterrestrial life. It also stars Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, and Abigail Breslin. Signs explores faith, kinship, and extraterrestrials.

Following its premiere in theatres nationwide on August 2, 2002, the film grossed $227,966,634 in domestic ticket receipts screening at 3,453 theatres during its widest release. It earned an additional $180,281,283 in business through international release, to top out at a combined $408,247,917 in gross revenue. The film was nominated for multiple awards, including those from the Online Film Critics Society and the Empire Awards. The film also won an award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
