Signal (novel)

Signal is a 2009 children's science fiction novel by Cynthia DeFelice. The book was a Junior Library Guild selection for 2009. The novel is about a boy who is bored with his new life in upstate New York and discovers a girl who claims to be from another planet, who has been kidnapped by an abusive couple, and attempts to make a signal to contact her home planet.

Signal (Hangul: 시그널; RR: Sigeuneol) is a 2016 South Korean television series starring Lee Je-hoon, Kim Hye-soo and Cho Jin-woong. It airs on tvN on Fridays to Saturdays at 08:30 KST for 16 episodes beginning January 22, 2016.

Synopsis

A mysterious walkie talkie allows a rookie detective in the 1980s to communicate with a jaded cold case profiler in 2016; with the power of fore and hindsight the two not only solve crimes but prevent them from ever taking place. However a long standing murder case is closer to home than either realises.

Signal (song)

"SIGNAL" is a song written by Ma-saya, Joker, Joey Carbone, Lisa Huang and Akira for the second single and second studio album of the Japanese boy band, KAT-TUN. It was released on July 19, 2006 in Japan, and became the group's second consecutive number one single on the Oricon daily and weekly singles charts.

Release and promotion

The single was released in two pressings - a regular version with instrumental versions of all the songs and a limited edition containing the songs, the music video of the title track and a short film of the making of the music video. The single was used in a commercial for NTT DoCoMo's FOMA "9 Series" cell phone which all KAT-TUN members starred in.

KAT-TUN performed the song on television for the first time on Utawara, a variety talk show where they were already regulars alongside senpai Jun Matsumoto of Arashi, on July 16, 2006. They sung on Fuji TV's Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ the day after and made their second appearance on Masahiro Nakai's Utaban on July 20. KAT-TUN performed on Music Station on July 21 and two days later, returned to Utawara where they performed two weeks in a row - the latter performance being a medley of "Six Senses", "Real Face" and the single itself.

Yakuza (band)

Yakuza is an avant-garde metal band, formed in Chicago in 1999. They have been acclaimed for their incorporation of jazz and world music elements.

History

Yakuza was formed in 1999. The band debuted with its independently released album Amount to Nothing in 2000. The album was met with acclaim from Terrorizer and the Chicago Sun Times. Yakuza followed its release with a tour alongside Candiria and Burnt by the Sun, eventually leading to a slot on the Vans Warped Tour.

Such exposure led to a record contract and the release of their second album, Way of the Dead, through Century Media Records in 2002. Yakuza then shared the stage with Opeth, The Dillinger Escape Plan, lacuna coil and Mastodon. Jazz musician Ken Vandermark guests on the record (a unique live performance from 2002 is on YouTube). While the band received critical acclaim, the record failed to meet sales expectations; as a result, Way of the Dead was the only Century Media release. Eric plonka parted ways in 2002 to start scientist.In 2005, the band signed with Prosthetic Records; in 2006, Samsara was released.

Yakuza (series)

Yakuza, known in Japan as Ryū ga Gotoku (龍が如く, lit. Like a Dragon), is an action-adventure video game franchise created, owned and published by Sega. The series primarily focus on the yakuza Kazuma Kiryu from the Tojo clan. While Kazuma often assists the Tojo clan, the series has also featured him searching for another way of life in the form of raising orphans. The gameplay of Yakuza has the player controlling Kazuma (or another character depending on the title) in an open world where he can encounter an enemy or perform an activity in the city to obtain experience.

The series originated from Toshihiro Nagoshi's desire to create a new game that would tell the yakuzas' way of life. Nagoshi initially struggled to find a platform for the project, until Sony showed interest in the prospect. The series became a commercial success, selling 7.8 million copies as of November 2014. Strong sales of the games in its original Japanese market has led to the franchise's expansion to other mediums, including film adaptations.

Yakuza (video game)

Yakuza, originally released in Japan as Like a Dragon (龍が如く, Ryū ga Gotoku), is an action-adventure game developed and published by Sega for the PlayStation 2. Yakuza was released in Japan in 2005, and outside Japan the following year. The story follows a yakuza named Kazuma Kiryu, who, after spending ten years in jail for a crime he did not commit, learns that 10 billion yen has been stolen from the Tojo clan, which the criminal underworld is searching for. He finds an orphaned girl Haruka who is being targeted by the clan, as she is believed to have the key for their lost money, and he resolves to protect her. The game takes place in Kamurocho, which is a realistic recreation of Tokyo's Kabukicho.

Yakuza is an open world action-adventure game with RPG elements: the player gains experience from combat, which can be used to level up Kazuma's stats and increase his fighting capabilities. In order to finance the game's expensive production, Sega contracted a tie-in campaign with famous Japanese companies. A remake of this game, titled Ryū ga Gotoku: Kiwami (龍が如く極, lit. "Like a Dragon: Extreme") has been released in Japanese on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on January 21, 2016.
