Main characters

Arnold

Arnold (voiced by Toran Caudell in season 1; Phillip Van Dyke in seasons 2–3; Spencer Klein in seasons 4–5; Alex D. Linz in season 5) is the nice, kind, optimistic nine-year-old protagonist and title character of the series. He is a dreamer and an idealist who always tries to see the best in people and do the right thing. Whenever he sees someone in trouble, especially Helga, Arnold goes out of his way to help them out, even if it is not sensible to do so. Arnold often acts as the stable center to those around him, whether he is around his "family" in his paternal grandparents' boarding house, or around his friends at school. He lives in Sunset Arms boarding house with his grandparents, Phil and Getrude.

Arnold has had two major crushes in the series: one with sixth-grader Ruth McDougal (through most of season 1), and one with a classmate named Lila Sawyer (introduced in season 2). However, his most catalytic relationship is with his classmate Helga Pataki. Helga is secretly in love with him, though to keep these feelings secret she bullies Arnold. Arnold is completely unaware of this fact for most of the series, other than the occasional hint from Helga and other classmates. Helga revealed her secret to Arnold during Hey Arnold!: The Movie, but Arnold gave Helga the opportunity to take back her confession, attributing it to "the heat of the moment". According to series creator Craig Bartlett, had the canceled "Jungle Movie" sequel been animated, Arnold would have returned Helga's feelings with a kiss of his own, with his best friend interrupting the moment. Arnold is friends with most of his fellow fourth-graders, with the best of which being Gerald Johanssen, whose friendship dates as far back as preschool.

Johnny Allen

Johnny Allen, played by Billy Murray, first appears in January 2005, and is the father of Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton). An old East End gangster, Johnny is responsible for the deaths of Andy Hunter (Michael Higgs) and Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman), and has a relationship with Tina Stewart (Charlotte Avery). He is also central to the Get Johnny Week storyline, in which Grant and Phil Mitchell (Ross Kemp and Steve McFadden) attempt to confront Johnny over his past misdemeanours. But it is his daughter's boyfriend, Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky), who proves to be Johnny's most serious threat.

Reverend Stevens

The Reverend Mr Stevens, played by Michael Keating, is a recurring character who is the vicar in Walford. His first appearance was in the episode originally broadcast on 10 January 2005, being introduced by executive producer Kathleen Hutchison, and he has appeared in at least one episode every year until 2014, when he does not appear at all throughout the year. He returns in April 2015.

Sid Eudy

Sidney Raymond "Sid" Eudy (born December 16, 1960) is an American professional wrestler. He is best known under the ring names Sid Vicious, Sid Justice, Psycho Sid, or simply Sid, and for his tenures in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). Between those promotions, Eudy has enjoyed major championship success and performed to an international television audience in four decades from the 1980s to the early 2000s.

Eudy is a six-time world champion, having won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship twice, the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice and the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion twice. In addition to world title success, Eudy is a former WCW United States Heavyweight Champion. During his tenures with the WWF and WCW, Eudy headlined many major pay-per-views for both organizations. He closed WrestleManias VIII and 13 in 1992 and 1997 respectively, as well as Starrcade, WCW's counterpart to that event, in 2000.

In speaking of Eudy's impact, WWE wrote, "One of the most brutal Superstars to ever terrorize WWE, the sadistic Sid brought an intensity that few could ever hope to contain. Just ask the litany of ring legends who have incurred his wrath — a hit list that includes Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, Bret "Hit Man" Hart and many more."

Woody

Voiced by:

Sheriff Woody Pride is a cowboy doll, and Andy's favorite toy. Appearing in all three Toy Story films, he usually acts as the leader of the gang. His rivalry with Buzz forms the basis of the plot of the first film. In Toy Story 2, he is stolen at a yard sale by a toy collector, causing the other toys to embark on a rescue mission. In Toy Story 3 he and the other toys are shipped to a daycare center.

Buzz Lightyear

Buzz Lightyear is a "space ranger" action figure, and wears a space suit with various features such as retractable wings and transparent helmet, a laser "weapon," and various sound effects. In the films, he acts as Woody's second-in-command. In Toy Story, he begins the series believing he is a real space ranger (the other toys are aware that they are toys) and develops a rivalry with Woody, who resents him for getting more attention as the newcomer. During the film, he comes to realize that he is just a toy, and eventually becomes good friends with Woody. He is extremely loyal to his friends. During his time trapped at Sid's house, Hannah, Sid's sister, called Buzz Mrs. Nesbit. In Toy Story 2, Buzz goes to save Woody from Al with Potato Head, Hamm, Rex, and Slink (Slinky Dog) where he gets stuck in the Buzz Lightyear aisle in Al's Toy Barn by another Buzz and finds out for himself what he was really like. In Toy Story 3, a relationship begins to develop between Buzz and Jessie. He is particularly open with his affection when switched to "Spanish mode."
