Unorthodox Jukebox

Unorthodox Jukebox is the second studio album by American recording artist Bruno Mars. It was released by Atlantic Records on December 7, 2012, as the follow-up to Mars' 2010 debut studio album Doo-Wops & Hooligans. The album was initially planned to be more "energetic" than his previous material, Unorthodox Jukebox ultimately presented a wide range of styles, such as reggae rock, disco and soul music. The singer co-wrote the all album and worked with several past collaborators, while enlisting new producers and guest vocals. Much of Unorthodox Jukebox revolves around the theme of relationships, with more explicit lyrics and subjects than his previous material. Critical response to Unorthodox Jukebox was generally favorable; many reviewers compared the work to that of his previous album, while others deemed the lyrical content as shallow and lacking of depth.

On December 4, 2012, the album was available to listen to in its entirety for a week before the release. The album debuted at the second spot in the US Billboard 200 with 192,000 copies sold, becoming Mars' best opening week to date. Later, the album peaked at number one on the chart becoming Mars first album to do so. The record peaked at number one in Australia, Canada, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Unorthodox Jukebox became Mars' fastest-selling album in the UK and third in 2012, the third best-selling album in Australia in 2013, and the third best-selling album released by a man in the United States in 2013. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) reported that Unorthodox Jukebox was the fourth best-selling album in the world in 2013, with 3.2 million copies sold worldwide to that date. It has globally sold 6.3 million copies as of January 2015. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2014 annual ceremony.

Show Me (album)

Show Me is a 1987 album by Canadian alternative rock band 54•40. The album contains the singles "One Day in Your Life" and "One Gun", both of which were hits in the band's native country and remain two of the band’s most popular songs. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and according to Neil Osborne, cost $250,000 to make.

Show Me!

Show Me! is a controversial sex education book by photographer Will McBride. It appeared in 1974 in German under the title Zeig Mal!, written with psychiatrist Helga Fleischhauer-Hardt for children and their parents. It was translated into English a year later and was widely available in bookstores on both sides of the Atlantic for many years, but later became subject to expanded child pornography laws in jurisdictions including the United States. In Germany, the book was followed in 1990 by a second edition that included, among other additions, a discussion of the AIDS epidemic.

Publication history

While many parents appreciated Show Me! for its frank depiction of pre-adolescents discovering and exploring their sexuality, others called it child pornography. In 1975 and 1976, obscenity charges were brought against the publisher by prosecutors in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, and Toronto, Canada. In all four cases, the judges ruled as a matter of law that the title was not obscene.

3AM (Matchbox Twenty song)

"3 A.M." (written "3 am" on the album and "3 AM" on the single) is the third single and the third track from Matchbox Twenty's debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You. It topped the Canadian RPM record charts in early 1998.

Background and content

This song was written by Rob Thomas, Jay Stanley, John Leslie Goff and Brian Yale while performing together in the early 1990s band Tabitha's Secret. The lyrics are inspired by Thomas as an adolescent having to live with a mother fighting to survive cancer.

Music video

The video (directed by Gavin Bowden) features the band sitting on sides of a street next to some telephone booths. A supermarket is also shown. The video switches from color video images to black-and-white images. During the introduction and the third verse of the song, Thomas walks in the middle of the street with some construction signs and lights. During the third verse, a car stops with a bare-chested man and a woman inside. The man walks out, revealing a catheter in his chest, and is handed three cigarettes by Thomas. Finally, during the last two choruses, the band is shown playing their instruments ending with an image of Thomas standing next to the telephone booths.
