Short list

A short list or shortlist is a list of candidates for a job, prize, award, political position, etc., that has been reduced from a longer list of candidates (sometimes via intermediate lists known as "long lists"). The length of short lists varies according to the context. A candidate on a short list may not receive the award or position.

U.S. politics

In US politics, short list is most frequently used in two instances: first a list of prospective vice presidential nominees compiled for the benefit of a party's presidential nominee, and a list of people who might be nominated by an executive office holder to a judicial or lower executive office.

In the latter instance, the short list may be compiled by the party election committee, after conducting research and undergoing a process of elimination, selecting individuals judged fit and capable of successfully completing any processes needed for acceptance. It may also be used for the presidential nominations of federal and Supreme Court justices.

ShortList

ShortList is a free weekly magazine published in the United Kingdom, which launched on 20 September 2007. The magazine has the biggest circulation of any men's lifestyle magazine in Britain with Martin Robinson as its editor. Mike Soutar, former editorial director of IPC Media, editor of FHM in the UK and US Maxim, is the CEO.

ShortList Media launched Stylist, a similar magazine for women, in 2009.

Distribution

The magazine is targeted at an audience of professional males. It is given away in London, Manchester and other major cities, and is available to pick up at other locations such as shops and gyms.

Content

The magazine was launched with the slogan "For men with more than one thing on their minds", to differentiate it from "lads' mags" such as FHM and Loaded.

Content includes brief product reviews, pub and bar reviews (Pints and Pistachios), recipes, fashion pages, interviews and a weekly column by Danny Wallace.

Circulation

According to figures for the second half of 2013, ShortList had an audited circulation of 534,692, and its bi-annual sister publication, Shortlist Mode, had a circulation of 260,615.
