Shirone (白根市 Shirone-shi ) was a city located in Niigata, Japan.
As of 2003, the city had an estimated population of 39,966 and density of 518.63 persons per km². The total area was 77.06 km².
The city was founded on June 1, 1959. On March 21, 2005 Shirone, along with the towns of Kameda, Kosudo and Yokogoshi, all from Nakakanbara District, the town of Nishikawa, the villages of Ajikata, Iwamuro, Katahigashi, Nakanokuchi and Tsukigata, all from Nishikanbara District, and the cities of Niitsu and Toyosaka, was absorbed by the expanded city of Niigata. As of April 1, 2007, the area is now part of Minami-ku ward.
