  • Lite (band)

Lite, stylized as LITE, is a Japanese rock band that has been termed "one of Japan's top instrumental rock acts." The band is made up of Nobuyuki Takeda (guitar), Kozo Kusumoto (guitar & synthesizer), Jun Izawa (bass), and Akinori Yamamoto (drums), and plays math rock. All of their albums have charted in Japan, with For All the Innocence charting the best, at number 85 on the Oricon chart.

    Biography

Formed in 2003 in Tokyo, Lite played many gigs around Tokyo and self-released two demo CDs. In 2006, they released one mini-album, Lite, and one full-length album, Filmlets, through Transduction in the UK and Cargo in Europe.

Lite's sound combines the precision and musicianship of prog rock with the emotionally charged cinematic compositions of art rock, in a heavier, more modern package that they describe as “math rock”.

They toured the UK and Ireland in 2006. In July 2007, they played at Fuji Rock Festival in Japan and followed that with another UK & Ireland tour in September, coinciding with a split release with Funanori (Kaori Tsuchida from The Go! Team and Mike Watt from the Minutemen). Titled "A Tiny Twofer", the split CD features three songs each. In 2008 they released their second album Phantasia. In May 2009, they made their American debut in New York City opening for Mike Watt's Missingmen.

    Shinkai

For the religion, see Shinkai (religion).

Shinkai (深海) is the 5th studio album recorded by Japanese rock band Mr. Children, released in June 1996 under the record label Toy's Factory.

After their breakthrough in 1994, Mr. Children yielded eight consecutive chart-topping singles. Three of those hits were appeared on the album; "Na mo Naki Uta", "Hana (Mémento-Mori)", and "Machine Gun o Buppanase" while others were reserved for their subsequent release Bolero in 1997.

Kazutoshi Sakurai, a chief singer-songwriter of the band named the album's working title as Coelacanth (シーラカンス Shīrakansu), which was misheard by his band-mate as "Shinkai" (lit. "deep sea"). Sakurai, who favored the sound of the phrase, decided to change the title of the album.

Shinkai was a sort of concept album, featuring more insightful compositions and harder-edged sound compared to the band's previous materials. The whole album is played gaplessly, though each tracks are separated on CD. They had not anticipated that such an adventurous effort would be a big hit.

    Shinkai (religion)

Shinkai (神会) is a Christian denomination that mixes certain practices and architecture, but not beliefs, of Shinto and Taoism. They follow a flat hierarchy with an ecclesion/governor-general as the symbol on Earth, but without any executive power. The executive consists of an abbot and other ministers. At the local level, the vicar is widely considered to be the pastor. They cannot be considered either Trinitarian nor Oneness as this interpretation is left to the member. What sets apart Shinkai from other denominations is its use of discussion rather than sermons or liturgy for the vast majority of the time. The members meet together and discuss a topic in great detail in a manner similar to a more respectful Question Time. The topic is pulled at random and members move into groups they agree with and find scripture to match.

The Shinkai 6500 (しんかい) is a manned research submersible that can dive up to a depth of 6,500 m. It was completed in 1990 and it had the greatest depth range of any manned research vehicle in the world until June 19, 2012, where its record was beaten by Jiaolong which dived at 6,965 m. The Shinkai 6500 is owned and run by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and it is launched from the support vessel Yokosuka.

Two pilots and one researcher operate within a 73.5 mm thick titanium pressure hull with an internal diameter of 2.0 m. Buoyancy is provided by syntactic foam.

Three 14 cm methacrylate resin view ports are arranged at the front and on each side of the vehicle.

A Lego set based on the submersible was created through the Lego Cuusoo website.
