Shine!

Shine! is a musical based on characters and situations found in the works of Horatio Alger, particularly Ragged Dick and Silas Snobden's Office Boy, respectively Alger's first best-seller and the one first printed in book form eighty years after it was first serialized in Argosy. Its plot and characters focus on Alger's pervasive theme: that in America one could begin with nothing, and with the right attitude, hard work, application, and a little bit of luck, dream a dream and chart a course on which to achieve it. Richard Seff wrote the book, Lee Goldsmith the lyrics and Roger Anderson the music. Anderson and Goldsmith had previously collaborated on the musical Chaplin.

Shine! was announced for Broadway in 1982, but production was canceled when producer 20th Century Fox disbanded its newly formed theatre division. The show was later produced in 1983 at the Virginia Museum Theatre in Richmond, Virginia, starring George Lee Andrews, Alix Korey and Todd Taylor. A reading of a revised version was seen in 1998 at Off Broadway's York Theatre Company. In 2001, Shine! was part of the National Musical Theatre Network showcase. That performance was recorded and released by Original Cast Records in October 2001. The recording featured performers including Carole Shelley, Harvey Evans, Brooks Ashmanskas and Andrea Burns. The show was published by Samuel French Inc. in 2002.

Mr. Big is an American hard rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1988. The band is a quartet composed of Eric Martin (lead vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitar), Billy Sheehan (bass guitar), and Pat Torpey (drums); The band is noted especially for their musicianship, and scored a number of hits. Their songs were often marked by strong vocals and vocal harmonies. Their hits include "To Be with You" (a number one single in 15 countries in 1992) and "Just Take My Heart".

Mr. Big have remained active and popular for over two decades, despite internal conflicts and changing music trends. They broke up in 2002, but after requests from fans, they reunited in 2009; their first tour was in Japan, in June 2009. To date, Mr. Big has released eight studio albums, the latest being ...The Stories We Could Tell (2014).

The band takes its name from the song by Free, which was eventually covered by the band on their 1993 album, Bump Ahead.

Shine (Mike Oldfield song)

"Shine" is a single by musician Mike Oldfield, released in 1986 (see 1986 in music). "Shine" features Jon Anderson on vocals.

Music video

The music video for "Shine" features use of computer graphics, such as a computer generated game of chess. Oldfield plays a Gibson SG guitar in the video. The video is available on the Elements - The Best of Mike Oldfield DVD.

Re-Volt

Re-Volt is a radio control car racing themed video game released by Acclaim Entertainment in 1999. It made appearances on the PlayStation, PC, Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast, with a spinoff: RC Revenge for PlayStation and an enhanced port called RC Revenge Pro for PlayStation 2.

Gameplay

The PC version of the game featured 28 stock cars and 14 tracks including a stunt arena for free roaming. Cars come in three fuel variants; electric, glow (internal combustion) and special. The players driving ability will place them into various categories so that they race against other cars of similar capabilities. These capabilities are classified in categories which are: Rookie, Amateur, Advanced, Semi-Pro and Pro. Tracks are also categorized depending on their difficulty to master and win. These categories are: Easy, Medium, Hard and Extreme. Cars and tracks are both unlocked through success in the game's tournament modes.

Single Race allows 2-4 players on the console versions and 2-12 players on the PC version to race on the normal, single-player tracks. Within each race, competitors race to be the first to complete a preset number of laps of the circuit. To aid them in this there are a variety of lightning bolt shaped pick-ups lying around the track. Collecting one of these provides the player with a random weapon varying from oil slicks to fireworks and batteries that increase your speed for a short period of time. The worse a player is doing in the race, the more likely one of the better weapons will be obtained, and vice versa.

Revolt (TV network)

Revolt (stylized as "REVOLT") is an American music-oriented digital cable television network that is owned by Sean "Diddy" Combs. It launched on October 21, 2013.

History

As part of its arrangement to acquire a minority interest in NBCUniversal, Comcast Corporation committed to carry several minority-owned networks. The arrangement followed pressure led by Maxine Waters in congressional hearings. In April 2011, Comcast solicited proposals for minority owned networks. In February 2012, Comcast announced distribution arrangements for four networks, including Revolt. The four announced networks and six forthcoming stations are being chosen from among in excess of 100 proposals to begin airing by 2020.

Business plan

The network intends to deliver music videos, live performances, news and interviews. In a statement, Combs described the network as "the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media." He also stated "We're building this platform for artists to reach an extraordinary number of people in a completely different way. Revolt will be live, like all great moments in television history." Combs' YouTube announcement of the network presented plans to create a network for the artists by the artists: "It's your channel to do what you want to do, how you want to do it." He further stated his intention for artists to "show your art the way you want to show your art -- uncut, raw, uncensored -- not destined by the charts and who's pop." The network is to be influenced by the dynamic interests of social networking websites. Combs' intended level of visibility on the network is unclear. Combs will partner with MTV veteran Andy Schuon.
