Shawn Jones (born 1976 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), is an American singer-songwriter and the founding member of the indie rock group The Lovely Sparrows.

Life

Jones began singing, songwriting and playing music at age 10. He studied at Oklahoma City University and graduated with a degree in Jazz Performance. in Oklahoma City. He currently lives in Austin, Texas.

Career

Shawn Jones formed The Lovely Sparrows in 2005. 2006's EP Pulling Up Floors... began the transition into more avant-garde finger picked folk music and "was a brutally wrought pop gem" and "retains the ironic slant of his songwriting while deftly layering dense orchestral arrangements..." 2008's full length Bury the Cynics continued to expand on these ideas and explored larger, more developed instrumental arrangements. He has been said to have a "gift for wordplay", with lyrics described as "brainy...startling imagery." Jones has recorded, toured and played with several bands over the past ten years.

Shawn Jones (American football)

Shawn Jones (born June 16, 1970) was a National Football League player for the Minnesota Vikings. Jones was a four year starter at Quarterback for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

High School

Jones played high school football for the Thomasville High School Bulldogs as a quarterback.

College

Jones is arguably one of the greatest Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets quarterbacks ever, leading his team to the 1990 UPI National Championship, and amassing 35 wins, 9,296 yards of total offense, and 70 touchdowns over 4 years of collegiate play. In all of Georgia Tech football history, only Jones and three other quarterbacks started all four years of their collegiate careers.

1990 National Championship/1991 Citrus Bowl

Jones led the Yellow Jackets to a Division 1-A best 11-0-1 Record in 1990 capped off with a 45-21 Citrus Bowl victory over Nebraska. Jones would be named the Bowl MVP. Led by Jones, Georgia Tech finished #1 in the Coaches Poll and was the only undefeated team of the 1990 season and would share the title with Colorado who finished #1 in the AP Poll.

Shawn Jones (basketball)

Shawn Jones (born March 25, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who plays for MoraBanc Andorra of the Liga ACB. He played college basketball for Middle Tennessee State University, where in 2014, he was named the Conference USA Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

High school career

Jones attended Hialeah High School in Hialeah, Florida. As a senior in 2009–10, he averaged 23.3 points, 14.3 rebounds and 9.1 blocks per game as he earned first team All-Dade County and third team All-State honors.

College career

In his four-year career at Middle Tennessee State, Jones played 131 games (62 starts), averaging 8.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. In his senior season in 2013–14, he was named the Conference USA Men's Basketball Player of the Year. He was also named to the Conference USA first team and NABC Division I All-District 11 first team, while also being named a participant of the Reese's College All-Star Game.
