Sharon

Sharon (Hebrew: שָׁרוֹן, Tiberian Hebrew: Šārôn) is a female name that can be spelled with one "r" or two (Sharron).

In some countries (like Israel), Sharon is a unisex name. It derives from the name the Israelite place name Sharon plain, referring to a fertile plain near the coast of Israel. This gives its name to a type of flowering shrub, the rose of Sharon. Sharon is one of many names that could formerly be applied to males (as in the 19th-century historian Sharon Turner), but is now nearly always used of females (cf. Vivian, Ashley, Beverly, etc.).

It began being used as a female name sometime in the early part of the 20th century, first being listed as one of the 1000 most popular names for females born in the United States in 1925. By the mid-1940s, it had become an extremely popular name for newborn American girls, remaining a top 10 name for most of the decade, peaking at #8 in both 1943 and 1945. Its popularity began to steadily decline thereafter; the name fell out of the top 100 after 1977, and out of the top 500 after 2001.

Sharon (NYCRR station)

Sharon is a former NYCRR train station that served the residents of Amenia, New York.

History

This station served the nearby town of Sharon, Connecticut. Despite its name, Sharon Station is not actually located in Sharon, Connecticut but is located over the state border and catered to the residents of Sharon. It was a much closer commute to Sharon Station than to the Danbury station to the south.

Depending on the source, Sharon Station served both passengers and freight from either 1873, or 1875 until March 22, 1972 and freight only until March 27, 1980 when Conrail abandoned service on that segment of the line. The station building was damaged by a fire in 1997, but was bought by a local family and restored. Sharon Station still exists today and has been converted into a residence, while the railroad line was converted into the Harlem Valley Rail Trail.

Sharon is a city in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in the United States, 75 miles (121 km) northwest of Pittsburgh. It is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area and is also included in the more extensive Youngstown-Warren, OH-PA Combined Statistical Area.

History

Sharon was settled in 1795, incorporated as a borough on October 6, 1841, and incorporated as a city on December 17, 1918. The city operated under the PA third-class city charter until 2008, at which point it adopted a home rule charter under which the elected position of mayor was replaced with a hired city manager and financial officer.

The founding families of Sharon first settled on a flat plain bordering the Shenango River (this area is situated between two hills and is the current location of Sharon's downtown business district). According to local legend, the community received its name from a Bible-reading settler who likened the location to the Plain of Sharon in Israel.

Victim (2011 film)

Victim is a 2011 British urban action drama film directed by Alex Pillai, written by Ashley Chin and Michael Maris, stars Ashley Chin, Ashley Madekwe, Jason Maza, and co-stars Adam Deacon,David Harewood and Giggs. The film is about a young man's attempts to move away from a life of violent crime, with the help of a wholesome country girl who comes to stay with his friend in the city, only to find himself the target of retaliation.

Plot

Tyson (Ashley Chin), Mannie (Jason Maza) and Jason (Michael Maris) grew up together in a tough inner-city world in London's East End, where no one could be trusted and everyone was out for themselves. With opportunities limited, it is crime that pays the bills and violence on the streets is how someone makes their mark. They make a living out of armed robberies with the help of eye candy Davina (Anna Nightingale) to seduce and lure drunken, unsuspecting rich City men in clubs, go back with them to their expensive flats, then Tyson and his crew move in, beat them up and steal everything.

A Place I've Never Been

A Place I've Never Been is the first studio album by Australian Idol series three winner Kate DeAraugo, released in Australia by Sony/BMG Australia as well as 19 Recordings on 12 December 2005 (see 2005 in music). DeAraugo chose the album title from album track "The Most Beautiful Place" which is her favourite song from the album. The album has a mixture of genre between pop rock and ballad songs – some written by Brooke McClymont, Jewel Kilcher and The Veronicas. A cover version of the Bryan Adams song "Heaven" was featured on the album. The singles released from the album "Maybe Tonight" and "Faded" became top ten hits on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart.

The singles released from A Place I've Never Been were successful in DeAraugo's home country Australia. "Maybe Tonight", the first single released, was the "Winner's Single" of season three of Australian Idol, where DeAraugo came first place. It debuted at number-one on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart with sales of 20,307 copies and was nominated for "Highest Selling Single" at the 2006 ARIA Awards. The album's second single, "Faded", became a hit making it DeAraugo's second top ten single. It went to spend twenty-four weeks in the top one hundred.

Victim (1961 film)

Victim is a 1961 British suspense film directed by Basil Dearden, starring Dirk Bogarde and Sylvia Syms. It is notable in film history for being the first English language film to use the word "homosexual". The world premiere was at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square on 31 August 1961. On its release in the United Kingdom it proved highly controversial to the British Board of Film Censors, and in the U.S. it was refused a seal of approval from the American Motion Picture Production Code.

Plot

A successful barrister, Melville Farr (Dirk Bogarde) has a thriving London practice. He is on course to become a Queen's Counsel and people are already talking of his being appointed a judge. He is apparently happily married to his wife, Laura (Sylvia Syms).

Farr is approached by "Boy" Barrett (Peter McEnery), a younger working class man with whom Farr shared a romantic but non-sexual relationship. Farr rebuffs the approach, thinking Barrett wants to blackmail him about their relationship. What Farr does not know is that Barrett himself has fallen prey to blackmailers who know of their relationship. The blackmailers have a picture of Farr and Barrett in a vehicle together, in which Barrett is crying with Farr's arm around him. Barrett has been trying to reach Farr to appeal for help, because Barrett has stolen £2,300 from his employers to pay the blackmailer and the police suspect him. Farr intentionally avoids him. Barrett is soon picked up by the police, who discover why he was being blackmailed. Knowing it will be only a matter of time before he is forced to reveal Farr's identity as the other man, Barrett hangs himself in a police cell.
