Sha Tin Racecourse

Sha Tin Racecourse (Chinese: 沙田馬場) is one of the two racecourses for horse racing in Hong Kong. It is located in Sha Tin in the New Territories. It is managed by Hong Kong Jockey Club (Chinese: 香港賽馬會).

Penfold Park (Chinese: 彭福公園) is encircled by the track, and the Hong Kong Sports Institute is located immediately south of the property.

History

It was built in 1978 (under the administration of Sir David Akers-Jones, the then-Secretary for the New Territories) on reclaimed land and is the larger of the two tracks in Hong Kong.

On September 9, 2007, Sha Tin race track opened for the season with record 1-day crowd of about 60,000. Chief Secretary Henry Tang struck the ceremonial gong. The Hong Kong Jockey Club collected US$106 million in bets (highest since 2001). Children of horse owners were admitted amid protest of local anti-gambling groups. Sunny Power, booted by Howard Cheng got the trophy in the 1,200 metre dash.

Sha Tin

Sha Tin, also spelt Shatin, is an area around the Shing Mun River in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Sha Tin District.

Geography

Sha Tin is located in a valley, on both sides of the Shing Mun River, running from the southwest to the northeast. It is bordered by Tai Wai in the southwest and by Fo Tan (left bank) and Shek Mun (right bank) in the northeast.

History

Tai Wai Village, located in Tai Wai, next to Sha Tin, and the oldest and largest walled village in Sha Tin District, was built in 1574, during the Ming Dynasty.

Before British rule in Hong Kong, the area of Sha Tin and its vicinity was referred to as Lek Yuen (lit. "source of trickling" or "source of clear water"). Colonial officials allegedly mistook the name of the Sha Tin Wai village as the name of the area and it has been used ever since. Nowadays, the original name is used to refer to Lek Yuen Estate.

Sha Tin was formerly a market town at the present location of Sha Tin Centre Street and New Town Plaza shopping centre, near the Sha Tin Station of the MTR East Rail Line.

Sha Tin Station

Sha Tin Station (Chinese: 沙田站) is a station on the East Rail Line of Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system. The station is located in the town centre of Sha Tin.

The station was formerly on the main line of the Kowloon–Canton Railway (KCR), but since KCR's merger with the MTR, it belongs to the East Rail Line of the MTR.

Citylink Plaza, which has a footbridge link to New Town Plaza, is built on top of the station. The station serves two large bus termini with buses going to many places around Hong Kong (such as Sai Kung or Tung Chung). One is on an elevated surface, adjacent to the concourse level. The other is at ground level in New Town Plaza.

sha. (* January 11, 1972 in Hartberg) is an Austrian artist and perception researcher. He became known through his multimedia art projects such as the House of Music in Vienna and through the artistic lounger object AlphaSphere.

Biography

In 1990, Andreas Rodler started studying Composition, Music theory and Electro acoustics at the University of Music and performing arts in Vienna and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. From 1995 to 1996 he spent several months at the sound lab IRCAM – Centre Pompidou Paris. His AlphaSphere was one of the Austrian contributions at International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF 2008) in New York.

Since the middle of the nineties, his artistic work focuses on human perception. In his works, he uses symphonic orchestra, experimental music theatre, sound installations and self-made sound objects. He develops video works, interactive exhibitions and media projects Cooperation with ORF, WDR, BR, ARTE, RADIO FRANCE, EBU.

Today he uses the pseudonym „sha.“ and works on multisensory projects, which aim for new synaesthetic fields of perception through a connection of all senses. Starting with the medium “sound“, connections to other sensations (such as colour, light, shape, haptics, warmth and scent) are established.

Sha (singer)

Grazia di Fresco, better known by her stage name Sha, is a German singer of Italian descent who rose to fame in the summer of 2006 with her debut single "JaJa".

Formation

Sha grew up in Schwieberdingen near Stuttgart. After finishing school in the year 2000 at the Hans Grüninger High School in Markgröningen she moved to Munich and published in 2001 as artist Grazia on an indie label, the song Rome or Paris. The song was not a commercial success. Five years later she wrote a record contract with major label EMI.

Subsequent career

Her debut single "JaJa" was released in the beginning of August 2006 and charted right away on the German and Austrian music charts. The song is a cover version of the 1990 hit "Ice Ice Baby" of American rapper Vanilla Ice, for which new German lyrics were written by its producer Ole Wierk. In February 2007, Sha released her second single, the electro-/synthpop song "Vergiss Mich", which is notable for its use of synthesizers.

On August 24, 2007, a double A-side single "Respect the Girls / Verdammt ich lieb dich" was released. There are videos for both songs. "Respect the Girls" was recorded as a part of the action of the German magazine BRAVO Girl, while "Verdammt ich lieb dich" is a cover of the German Schlager singer Matthias Reim. On August 25, Sha was at the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin, supporting the Schau nicht weg! action of BRAVO and VIVA against school violence. On August 31, her first album, Kein Scheiß!, was released.
