Seoul Subway Line 3 (dubbed The Orange Line) of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway is a commuter rail service. which connects Goyang, northwestern Seoul to the city center, Gangnam and southeastern Seoul.
In December 2010 the line is recorded as having the second highest WiFi data consumption in the Seoul Metropolitan area. It averaged 1.8 times more than the other 14 subway lines fitted with WiFi service zones.
Construction began in 1980, and most of the current line opened (Gupabal - Yangjae; Jichuk opened in 1990) after completion of work in two stages during 1985, along with brother subway Line 4. In October 1993, a second extension to the south was opened (Yangjae - Suseo), giving Seoul the current Line 3.
In March 1996, the Ilsan Line (Daehwa - Jichuk), which is considered the third extension to the north was opened, and connected the city of Goyang with Seoul. Seoul's portion of Line 3 and the Ilsan part of Line 3 operate as one combined line, with trains running from one end to the other. The respective stations are operated by two different companies, though, so they are sometimes listed separately. There are 2 depots near Jichuk Station and Suseo Station, which are for both Korail and Seoul Metro.

Line 3 of the Mumbai Metro, also referred to as the Colaba–Bandra-SEEPZ line, is a part of the metro system for the city of Mumbai, India that is currently in its tendering stage (as of January 2015). When completed, the 33.5-km long line will be the first underground metro line in Mumbai. The metro line will connect Cuffe Parade business district in the extreme south of the city to SEEPZ in the north-central with 26 underground and one at-grade station. The track width is standard gauge. The cost of this corridor is estimated at ₹23136 crore (US$3.4 billion). Line 3 is expected to reduce road congestion, besides reducing the load on the Western Line between Bandra and Churchgate.
The project will be implemented by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL). The line starts at Cuffe Parade, will run through Nariman Point, Churchgate, CST, Girgam, Worli, Mahim, Kalina University, Dadar, Bandra, Bandra-Kurla Complex,Santacruz East and past the domestic and international terminals of Mumbai Airport, through Andheri MIDC and terminates at SEEPZ.
Line 3 (Red) of the São Paulo Metro covers the stretch of the metro network between Palmeiras-Barra Funda and Corinthians-Itaquera. It was formerly called the East-West Line. Line 3 is the busiest in the system.
This line, initially called the East-West line, was only planned to be 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) long, connecting the Casa Verde and Vila Maria districts of São Paulo, passing through the center of Barra Funda, Sé, and Tatuapé, and be completely underground. But after a lengthy debate, it was decided that it would be constructed on the surface, taking advantage of the old Rede Ferroviária Federal train bed and sharing 23 kilometres (14 mi) of its lines—a move that prevented many expropriations.
Construction began in 1972. With this design change, the East-West line would then be more than 30 kilometres (19 mi) long between Praça da Sé and Guaianases, parallel to the railroad tracks. The stretch between Guaianases and Calmon Viana, in Poá was planned to be built in a second phase, making full use the rail bed. The strength of this design change would be a cost equivalent to one third of the original budget. Because of international trends that dictate that the rail for metro systems used for urban transport be made exclusive to the metro, the design was changed again.
The Seoul Metropolitan Subway is an integrated urban rail transit system consisting of 18 rapid transit, light metro, and commuter rail lines. The system serves most of the Seoul Metropolitan Area including the Incheon metropolis and satellite cities in Gyeonggi province along with major cities in northern Chungnam province and western Gangwon province that lie over 100km away from the capital. There are connections to Incheon International Airport and Gimpo Airport via the A'REX.
It has been described as the world's longest multi-operator metro system by route length. The system was rated as one of the world's best subway systems by CNN, and Jalopnik It is notable for its cleanliness and ease of use along with advanced technology such as 4G LTE, WiFi, DMB, and WiBro accessible in all stations and moving subway cars. Most trains have digital TV screens, and all of them have air conditioning and climate controlled seats installed that are automatically heated in the winter. Nearly all stations have platform screen doors installed; only Gaewha and some minor Korail-operated stations remain with open platforms. By 2017, Korail will completely install screen doors in every station and platform, making it the world's first major metro system to be fully screen-doored. The world's first virtual mart for smartphone users opened at Seolleung Station in 2011.
