"Finale" is a song by electronic music producer Madeon featuring vocals from singer Nicholas Petricca of Walk the Moon. It was released on 22 July 2012 as a digital download in the United Kingdom. The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number 35. It was used in an NBC Sports Network commercial during the 2012 Summer Olympics and was frequently used throughout the 2013 X Games. It has also featured on an advert for National Geographic channel and PlayStation Vita. It makes appearances in the video games FIFA 13 as part of its soundtrack and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as its opening theme. The cover art is a coloured silhouette of the skyline of Sydney from the east (which is also used in "Icarus" but with a different background color).

The Golden Age of Knowhere

The Golden Age of Knowhere is the debut studio album by American band Funeral Party. The album was produced by Lars Stalfors (known for his work with The Mars Volta) with the exception of "New York City Moves to the Sound of L.A." which was produced by David Corcos, and subsequently on RCA Records.

Title

The title was inspired by Lord of the Flies with lead singer Chad stating, "I was just really into the idea of a civilization restarting but with a new mentality of, like, kids starting it up. Like something brand new."

Lyrical themes

"New York City Moves to the Sound of L.A." explores a sense of 'yearning for something to happen' rather than a rivalry of the two cities music scenes. "I was like, 'Fuck! I wish that we could just start our own thing.' And that's why I like being in a band. You kind of feel like that, like you're in your own tribe and you want to set out to start some sort of movement."

Recording process

The album was recorded in 2008 and a took a year to complete. The music was finished quickly but vocalist Chad had to return to the studio to do multiple vocal takes. Chad said of the recording process, "I was going through a break up-slash-getting with someone else, so at that point, my voice was more 'raspy sounding'. Later on, my relations were going fine, so it had more of a soothing sound."

The Senate (French: Sénat [seˈna]) is the upper house of the Parliament of France, presided over by a president. Indirectly elected by elected officials, it represents territorial collectivities of the Republic and French citizens living abroad.

The Senate enjoys less prominence than the lower house, the directly elected National Assembly; debates in the Senate tend to be less tense and generally receive less media coverage.

History

France's first experience with an upper house was under the Directory from 1795 to 1799, when the Council of Ancients was the upper chamber. There were Senates in both the First and Second Empires (the former being known as the sénat conservateur, the latter as the French Senate), but these were only nominally legislative bodies – technically they were not legislative, but rather advisory bodies on the model of the Roman Senate.

With the Restoration in 1814, a new Chamber of Peers was created, on the model of the British House of Lords. At first it contained hereditary peers, but following the July Revolution of 1830, it became a body to which one was appointed for life. The Second Republic returned to a unicameral system after 1848, but soon after the establishment of the Second French Empire in 1852, a Senate was established as the upper chamber. In the Fourth Republic, the Senate was replaced by the Council of the Republic, but its function was largely the same. With the new constitution of the Fifth Republic enforced on 4 October 1958, the older name of Senate was restored.

Senate (Netherlands)

The First Chamber (Dutch: Eerste Kamer [ˈeːrstə ˈkaːmər]), often known as the Senate (Dutch: Senaat [səˈnaːt]), is the upper house of the States General, the legislature of the Netherlands. Its 75 members are elected by the members of the twelve States-Provincial every four years, within three months of the provincial elections.

Members of the Senate are part-timers who often hold other positions as well. They receive an allowance which is about a quarter of the salary of the members of the House of Representatives. Unlike the politically more significant House of Representatives, it meets only once a week. Its members tend to be veteran politicians or part-time politicians at the national level, often having other roles.

It has the right to accept or reject legislative proposals but not to amend them or to initiate legislation. Directly after a bill has been passed by the House of Representatives, it is sent to the Senate and is submitted to a parliamentary committee. The committee decides whether the bill can be immediately put on the agenda of the full chamber or there should first be preparatory study of the bill. If a bill is immediately put on the agenda of the full chamber, it is passed as a formality without a debate.

The Senator (tree)

The Senator was the biggest and oldest bald cypress tree in the world, located in Big Tree Park, Longwood, Florida. At the time of its demise, it was 125 feet (38 m) tall, with a trunk diameter of 17.5 feet (5.3 m). The tree was thought to have been destroyed by a fire from a lightning strike, but it was later discovered that the fire was started by 26-year-old Sara Barnes.

History

The Seminoles and other Native American Indians who lived throughout Central Florida used this tree as a landmark. In the late 19th century, the tree attracted visitors even though much of the surrounding land was swamp; reaching the tree was done by leaping from log to log. A walkway was later constructed by the Works Progress Administration. In 1925, a hurricane destroyed the top of the tree, reducing its original height of 165 feet (50 m) to a height of 118 feet (36 m).

The Senator was named for Florida State Senator Moses Overstreet, who donated the tree and surrounding land to Seminole County for a park in 1927. In 1929, former US President Calvin Coolidge reportedly visited The Senator and dedicated the site with a commemorative bronze plaque. A photo that was published of Coolidge and his wife near the tree was reported by the Orlando Sentinel to have been doctored. The plaque and portions of an iron fence were stolen by vandals in 1945 and never recovered.
