Sedgley Park

Sedgley Park is a suburban area of Prestwich, a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester, England. Sedgley Park is roughly bounded to the north by Scholes Lane, to the east by Bury Old Road and to the west by Bland Road/George Street.

The district has a large Jewish population, with a number of synagogues. There are many Jewish businesses, shops and delicatessens along Bury New Road, Kings Road and Bury Old Road. The housing is varied, but the bulk of the property is residential interwar semi detached (1920s and 1930s). Sedgley Park is also home to the Greater Manchester Police training headquarters.

There was once a park, located to the south-west of Bury Old Road and Scholes Lane. This has long since been developed with residential property (Lanes Estate).

Sedgley Park Rugby Union Football Club, the 1st XV team of which play under the name of Sedgley Tigers, is a rugby union club based in Whitefield, in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester. Last season they finished 15th in National Division One, the third tier of the English rugby union league hierarchy and were relegated to National League 2 North for season 2013–14. The Tigers nickname is due to their striped kit.

History

Sedgley Park is a district of Prestwich approximately two miles north of Manchester city centre. In 1932 at a public meeting in a temperance bar, the club began. The very first ground was a farmer's field in Whitefield, and the club has never been based in Sedgley Park. Despite primitive conditions - cowshed for changing, farmyard pump for washing - the new club thrived.

A clubhouse had already been built and three regular teams were being fielded before World War II broke out in 1939. They survived the war years, and also a difficult period afterward when they lost their rented ground. For two years all games were played away, with barely enough playing members for two teams, until in 1955 they moved to their present site, Park Lane in Whitefield, with an immediate and spectacular improvement in playing standards. During the next twenty years Sedgley Park became a successful and respected junior club but, in the years before league rugby, advancement was practically impossible, especially for a club notorious for its muddy pitches; they were often nicknamed 'Sludgley Park' by other teams! The decision to build a large, two-story clubhouse was arguably the most significant one in their history.

APOEL FC (Greek: ΑΠΟΕΛ; short for Αθλητικός Ποδοσφαιρικός Όμιλος Ελλήνων Λευκωσίας, Athletikos Podosferikos Omilos Ellinon Lefkosias, "Athletic Football Club of Greeks of Nicosia") is a professional football club based in Nicosia, Cyprus. History

The Company was founded in 1972 as the manager of the Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust under the name F&C Management Limited.

In 1985 the Company started managing third party funds. In 1989 the Company established a partnership with Germany’s HypoVereinsbank who acquired a 50% stake in the business; this stake was increased to 90% in 1998. In 2000 Eureko purchased HypoVereinsbank’s 90% stake and in 2001 went on to secure 100% control and consolidate their asset management activities with those of the Company under the F&C brand.

In 2004 ISIS Asset Management merged with F&C Management Limited to form F&C Asset Management and the combined business was then listed on the London Stock Exchange.

In 2008 Friends Provident announced its intention to divest its shareholding in F&C Asset Management. This was completed in 2009.

On 7 May 2014, F&C Asset Management plc was acquired by Bank of Montreal through its wholly owned subsidiary, BMO Global Asset Management (Europe) Limited.
