Seattle City Light

Seattle City Light is the public utility providing electrical power to Seattle, Washington, US, and parts of its metropolitan area, including all of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park and parts of unincorporated King County, Burien, Normandy Park, Seatac, Renton, and Tukwila. Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public utility in the United States and the first municipal utility in the US to own and operate a hydroelectric facility.

Seattle City Light is a department of the City of Seattle and is governed by Seattle City Council. Currently, Seattle City Council Member Kshama Sawant heads the committee that oversees Seattle City Light.

Overview

The approximately 776,336 residents (418,000 metered customers) served by Seattle City Light use about 9,466,642 megawatt-hours annually. Seattle City Light was the first electric utility in the nation to become greenhouse gas neutral (2005) and has the longest running energy conservation program in the country. The utility owns a large portion of its generation, which is predominately hydro, so is able to offer some of the country's lowest rates to its customers (of utilities in urban areas). Seattle City Light's customer breakdown shows about 362,658 residential customers consuming about 3,098,745 megawatt-hours and 39,950 non-residential customers consuming about 6,367,897 megawatt hours.

Seattle

Seattle (ⁱ/siˈætəl/) is a West Coast seaport city and the seat of King County. With an estimated 662,400 residents as of 2015, Seattle is the largest city in both the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest region of North America. In July 2013 it was the fastest-growing major city in the United States, and remained in the top five in May 2015 with an annual growth rate of 2.1%. The Seattle metropolitan area of around 3.6 million inhabitants is the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States. The Seattle area was previously inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers.Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, subsequently known as the Denny Party, arrived from Illinois via Portland, Oregon on the schooner Exact at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. The settlement was moved to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay and named "Seattle" in 1852, after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.

"Seattle" is a song, which was composed by Hugo Montenegro and whose lyrics were written by Jack Keller and Ernie Sheldon, which was used as the theme for the 1968-70 ABC-TV U.S. television show Here Come the Brides, which was situated in 19th-Century Seattle, Washington.

Performances

Late in the show's first season, singer Perry Como recorded a version of the song, which became a Top 40 hit for him on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts in early 1969. One of the stars of Here Come the Brides, pop singer Bobby Sherman, also recorded a version of the song, but his version was never released as a single.

Two different versions were used as the theme for the television series, for both of which Montenegro conducted an in-studio orchestra: the first was instrumental; and the second was vocal, with its lyrics being sung by a musical team called "The New Establishment."

"Seattle" is sung by the Seattle Sounders FC's supporter groups, during matches, specifically at the kickoff of each half.

Seattle was Perry Como's 17th 12" long-play album released by RCA Records.

Seattle was Perry Como's first attempt at a contemporary 60's sound. The album's opening track, "Happiness Comes, Happiness Goes" features distorted guitars and swirling organs.
