Seal Slough is a narrow winding tidal channel through a tidal marsh in San Mateo and Foster City, California. This slough has been the object of a wetland restoration project in recent years to enhance habitat value.Dredging has been carried out in Seal Slough since at least 1954. When the original sewage treatment plant for the city of San Mateo was constructed in 1935, its discharge was directed to Seal Slough.
The marshy area through which Seal Slough meanders is a productive brackish wetland whose dominant flora is cordgrass. There are a number of significant wildlife features associated with Seal Slough, including use by the endangered California clapper rail. A tide gate near the mouth of Seal Slough regulates tidal influx from San Francisco Bay to the Marina Lagoon; this flushing action is important to prevent population explosion of midges in the local area.
Seal Slough has a tidal exchange with San Francisco Bay on the eastern shoreline of the city of San Mateo, approximately mid-way between Coyote Point and the San Mateo Bridge. At its mouth there is a marshy area and an extent of bay mud extending approximately 700 meters northward into San Francisco Bay. Near the mouth area is situated the city of San Mateo Wastewater Treatment Plant and Bayside School. The course of the slough is highly tortuous as it winds easterly. Further along its course continuing eastward, single-family residential uses have encroached closely on its southern banks; in this middle reach it also passes close to and north of Parkside School. Further to the east it passes beside Lakeshore School before crossing under Hillsdale Boulevard and entering Foster City.
Slough (i/ˈslaʊ/) is a town in Berkshire, England, about 20 miles (30 kilometres) west of central London. It is bisected by the A4 and the Great Western Main Line. In 2011, the population of Slough was 140,200 and the most ethnically diverse in the United Kingdom outside London, with the highest proportion of religious adherents in England.Historically part of Buckinghamshire, Slough is home to the Slough Trading Estate, the largest industrial estate in single private ownership in Europe.
The first recorded uses of the name occur as Slo in 1196, Sloo in 1336, and Le Slowe, Slowe or Slow in 1437. It first seems to have applied to a hamlet between Upton to the east and Chalvey to the west, roughly around the "Crown Crossroads" where the road to Windsor (now the A332) met the Great West Road. The Domesday Survey of 1086 refers to Upton, and a wood for 200 pigs, worth £15. During the 13th century, King Henry III had a palace at Cippenham. Parts of Upton Court were built in 1325, while St Mary the Virgin Church in Langley was probably built in the late 11th or early 12th century, though it has been rebuilt and enlarged several times.

A slough is a wetland, usually a swamp or shallow lake, often a backwater to a larger body of water. Water tends to be stagnant or may flow slowly on a seasonal basis.
In North America, a slough can be a side-channel from or feeding a river, or an inlet or natural channel only sporadically filled with water. An example of this is Finn Slough on the Fraser River, whose lower reaches have dozens of notable sloughs.
I've gotta be breaking up with everything I know
If I wanna break ground with anything, I've got to show
Cause if there's one person in the world I've got to please,
It's me, not you
I've got to stand up for what I gotta say
Gotta be lettin my inner light show me the way
To be as much of me as I can let myself be until my dyin day
Cause I (y e a) won't sell myself, won't sell myself to you
I (y e a) won't sell myself to you
I was never the kind of person to follow like sheep
I'm not gonna lie in the bed you made for me
Sometimes the easy way is the harder way
Try to set your mind at ease
I've got to let temptations fall aside
Gotta be letting my heart say what's wrong or right
Still be as much of me as I can let myself be,
As long as I decide
Cause I (y e a) won't sell myself, won't sell myself to you
I (y e a) won't sell myself, won't sell myself to you
I'm so sick and tired of everything that you do to me
Say something new to me
Like "Do as you please"
I'm havin a hard time when you do these things to me
Like I'm guilty or something
Whatever you're tryin to say.
I'm not lazy or stupid or nothin
but I've gotta be pullin myself aside to stop all the fussin'
and fighting, my friend
Cause I (y e a) won't sell myself, won't sell myself to you
I (y e a) won't sell myself, won't sell myself to you
Hey (yea-ah) won't sell myself, won't sell myself to you
Hey (yea-ah) won't sell myself, won't sell myself to you
