Sea Islands

The Sea Islands are a chain of tidal and barrier islands on the Southeastern Atlantic Ocean coast of the United States. Numbering over 100, they are located between the mouths of the Santee and St. Johns Rivers along the coast of the US states of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

History

Settled by indigenous cultures over thousands of years, the islands were selected by Spanish colonists as sites for founding of colonial missions. Historically the Spanish influenced the Guale and Mocama chiefdoms by establishing Christian missions in their major settlements, from St. Catherine's Island south to Fort George Island (at present-day Jacksonville, Florida). Both chiefdoms extended to the coastal areas on the mainland. The Mocama Province included territory to the St. Johns River in present-day Florida. The mission system ended under pressure of repeated raids by English South Carolina colonists and Indian allies. Spain ceded its territory of Florida to Great Britain in 1763 following the British victory against the French in the Seven Years' War, which resulted in Britain taking over all French territory east of the Mississippi River.

Radeon HD 8000 series

The HD 8000 series is a family of computer GPUs developed by AMD. AMD was initially rumoured to release the family in the second quarter of 2013, with the cards manufactured on a 28 nm process and making use of the improved Graphics Core Next architecture. However the 8000 series turned out to be an OEM rebadge of the 7000 series (although, Oland is of newer development).

Architecture

This article is about all products under the Radeon HD 8000 Series brand. These series marked AMD shift from VLIW architectures (TeraScale (microarchitecture)) to RISC/SIMD ones (called Graphics Core Next). The transition wasn't complete, so while the newer more powerful cards were equipped with GCN cores, the less powerful ones were left with older TeraScale2/3 cores. The variations are described in the tables below. GCN desktop cards were code-named Southern Islands, while mobile ones were code-named Solar System.

Multi-monitor support

The AMD Eyefinity-branded on-die display controllers were introduced in September 2009 in the Radeon HD 5000 Series and have been present in all products since.
