Screaming Eagles (MLS supporters association)

The Screaming Eagles, are a supporters group of the Major League Soccer (MLS) team D.C. United and of the United States men's national soccer team. The group was founded in 1995 by Matt Mathai and are commonly known for the songs and chants that they perform during D.C. United and US national team games. The group is one of the most widely known MLS supporters clubs. It is organized as a registered 501(c) (4) non profit organization.

The Screaming Eagles have organized over their history roadtrips to every MLS city for D.C. United road matches. Additionally, the group runs a roadtrip every four years to Mexico City for the fiercely contested CONCACAF World Cup qualifying match between the US national team and the Mexico national football team in Estadio Azteca.

As of December 2013 the Screaming Eagles had more than 1,200 active members. Those members represent a wide variety of ages and nationalities. The most ardent supporters gather in "The Nest" in Sections 132, 133 and 134, and "The Perch" in Sections 230, 231, and 232 at RFK Stadium. Recognizable from numerous TV images, "The Nest" and "The Perch" roll with the cheers of excited Screaming Eagles members, keeping the spirits of the team and other soccer fans high regardless of the score. The Screaming Eagles have supported United at home and on the road and have become one of the most recognizable supporters clubs in MLS.

Screaming Eagles (film)

Screaming Eagles is a 1956 black-and-white World War II film directed by Charles F. Haas and released by Allied Artists. It stars Tom Tryon, Jan Merlin and was the film debut of Jacqueline Beer a French Miss Universe 1954 runner up. The story is set during the night of the Normandy Invasion where the 101st Airborne Division jumps into France. The title of the film refers to the nickname of the Division, based on its shoulder sleeve insignia. The film is notable for its large cast of up-and-coming actors.

Plot

Prior to the Normandy landings three replacements are assigned to the 1st Platoon, "D" Company, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. Amongst them is Private Mason (Tom Tryon) who doesn't get along with his fellow paratroopers but is kept in the unit by his platoon commander Lt. Pauling (Jan Merlin).

Soon after the drop, Lt. Pauling is blinded and Mason learns how to be a paratrooper when he takes care of his Lieutenant.
