Scott Mariani

Scott Mariani (born 1 January 1968) is a British Sunday Times bestselling author, best known for his thriller novels about ex-SAS Major and former theology student, Ben Hope. The first of these novels, The Alchemist's Secret, was ranked No.1 in the UK's Amazon Kindle chart for six consecutive weeks.

Biography

Mariani was born in St Andrews in Scotland and studied Modern Languages and Film Studies at Oxford University. He now resides in west Wales, where he first got the idea for the character Ben Hope when out walking. Prior to becoming a full-time writer, he worked in various jobs, including as a translator, professional musician and freelance journalist. He has cited his interests outside of writing to be shooting, archery, photography and astronomy; he is a supporter of the Woodland Trust and the World Wide Fund for Nature.

Ben Hope

The Ben Hope novels have been described as "James Bond meets Jason Bourne, with a historical twist". The series starts with the lead character (who has left the SAS to become a freelance "consultant" in searching and rescuing children who are kidnap victims) being recruited to try to find Fulcanelli, or at the very least his manuscript, in order to try to save the life of a child. The manuscript in question is purported to contain the secret of the elixir of life.

SCOTT Sports

The Swiss company SCOTT Sports SA (formerly Scott USA) is a producer of bicycles, winter equipment, motorsports gear and sportswear.

History

In 1958, engineer and skier Ed Scott from Sun Valley, Idaho, invented a ski pole made of aluminium, which compared favorably with those made of bamboo or steel. On the basis of this success, the company started to produce many kinds of sports goods. In 1970, Scott sold their first protection goggles for motocross riders; further motocross wear followed.

Scott expanded to Europe in 1978, settling their headquarters in Fribourg, Switzerland.

In 1989, SCOTT introduced one of the most significant innovations in the history of cycling to mass market – the clip-on aerodynamic handlebar. The handlebar was strategically utilized by American Greg LeMond in his 1989 Tour de France win, when he beat Frenchman Laurent Fignon by nearly a minute in the 24.5 km final time trial. Previous to this event it was widely used in triathlon and Race Across America.

Al Gore

"Al Gore" (voiced by Trey Parker in the "ManBearPig" episode and Matt Stone in "The Red Badge of Gayness" episode) is the former Vice President of the United States and also tries to alert the children of South Park of a mystical creature named "ManBearPig". He constantly says "I'm super cereal!" and "excelsior!" during certain situations; he also appears to be ignorant and insecure.

Gore also appears in during the Imaginationland saga where he's shown wearing a red cape and yelling "excelsior!"; he also appears in the South Park: The Stick of Truth video game.

Big Gay Al

Big Gay Al (speaking voice Matt Stone, singing voice Trey Parker) is a stereotypical homosexual man known for his flamboyant and positive demeanor. For example, he almost always responds to the greeting "How are you?" with an upbeat "I'm super! Thanks for asking!" At one point in the show, he runs an animal farm for gay animals who have been rejected by homophobic pet owners. He temporarily adopted Sparky, Stan's gay dog, who had run away from home. Later on in the episode, his large shelter vanishes, but the various animals remained, and were adopted by their former owners who had missed them greatly. Ever since, he has been a particularly good friend to Stan, and is one of the few people in South Park who are genuinely nice.
