The Scanlan SG-1A is an American, single seat, pod-and-boom, high-wing, strut-braced glider that was designed by Thomas W. Scanlan in 1970 and sold in the form of plans for amateur construction.
The SG-1 was conceived as a very simple and economical aircraft that could be built with modest construction skills and very little financial investment. The prototype was completed in 1970 for US$400 and subsequent aircraft were built for under US$1000.
The SG-1 is constructed with a welded steel fuselage and tail surfaces and covered with doped aircraft fabric. The wing is made from an aluminium structure, covered in aluminum sheet and features upper-surface spoilers and a modified Gö 549 airfoil. The landing gear is a monowheel with the forward fuselage protected by a skid. The airframe was static tested to 9g without failing.
With a very low stall speed of 32 mph (51 km/h), pilots who have flown the aircraft claim that the SG-1 can fly a thermal inside a Schweizer SGS 1-26.
Stargate SG-1 (often abbreviated as SG-1) is an adventure and military science fiction television series and part of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Stargate franchise. The show, created by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, is based on the 1994 science fiction film Stargate by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich. The television series was filmed in and around the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The series premiered on Showtime on July 27, 1997; the final episode first aired on Sky1 on March 13, 2007. With 214 episodes over 10 seasons, Stargate SG-1 had surpassed The X-Files as the longest-running North American science fiction television series, a record it holds to this day, regarding the time span it was running. However, regarding the number of episodes, it has since been surpassed by the series Smallville with 218 episodes, and Supernatural with 228.
The story of Stargate SG-1 begins about a year after the events of the feature film, when the United States government learns that an ancient alien device called the Stargate can access a network of such devices on a multitude of planets. SG-1 is an elite United States Air Force special operations team, one of about 20 teams from Earth who explore the galaxy and defend against alien threats such as the Goa'uld, the Replicators, and the Ori. The series draws primarily upon Egyptian mythology, Greek mythology, Norse mythology, and Arthurian legend.
Schlachtgeschwader 1 (SchlG 1, since 1943 rather SG 1) was a German ground-attack wing during World War II. The first formation was on 13 January 1942, from the II.(Schl)/Lehrgeschwader 2, initially with two Gruppen each made of four Staffeln. The second formation was on 18 October 1943, by renaming the existing Sturzkampfgeschwader 1 (StG 1). The new unit's name became abbreviated simply SG 1.
Schlachtgeschwader 1 of the Luftwaffe was formed on 13 January 1942 at Werl. I/SchlG 1 was outfitted with Messerschmitt Bf 109E-7s. As of II/SchlG 1, the 5th and 6th Staffeln were equipped with Henschel Hs 129B-1s, and the 7th Staffel with Henschel Hs 123As. The 7th Staffel took over the aircraft of the 8th Staffel in April 1942. In the same month, the training was completed, and the wing was ordered to the Crimea for duty with IV Fliegerkorps, Luftflotte 4.
The 4th Staffel and the 8th Staffel, while formally part of SchlG 1, operated independently.
